Missouri AG signals further legal fight as REDISTRICTING case advances: INTERVIEW

Missouri’s congressional map will remain in place for upcoming elections after the state Supreme Court upheld it this week, marking a significant victory for state officials as redistricting battles continue nationwide ahead of the midterms.

Missouri Attorney General Catherine Hanaway joined The National News Desk's Geoff Harris on Thursday to discuss the ruling.

Hanaway praised the ruling, saying it clears the way for the map to be used in both the August primaries and the November general election.

We’re feeling very good that we’re going to have elections … this year with the new map,” Hanaway said.

The court’s decision addressed challenges over district compactness and whether newly drawn maps could be implemented while a referendum effort is underway. The justices sided with the state, allowing the legislature-approved map to take effect unless and until a ballot initiative qualifies and is approved by voters.
