As the 2025 hurricane season ramps up, we're bringing back this fan favorite from last year. This month marks 64 years since Hurricane Carla devastated Texas, launching what started as a bar bet between pilots into the standard practice of flying directly into hurricane eyes. NOAA Hurricane Hunters continue this dangerous work today, flying into major storms to gather life-saving data. NOAA flight engineer Daniel Tyson sits down with Emily Gracey to talk about what it's like inside these specially-built aircraft, the incredible damage they sustain flying through hurricanes, and how storm-tracking technology has evolved since Hurricane Carla's historic flight missions!
