The former First Minister has reviewed Johnson's memoir for the New Statesman, and doesn’t hold back in her assessment of either the book or the man.
"[Boris Johnson] does have a tendency to describe women physically, and sometimes that's complimentary, other times it's not. The paragraph about Theresa May's nostrils is creepy, frankly, and weird.”
Addressing Johnson’s characterisation of herself in the book, Sturgeon adds “there's a certain sort of acerbic kind of venom that he applies to me that he doesn't apply to other people. And I think that is misogyny to be blunt.”
She describes the section discussing the case of Nazanin Zaghari-Radcliffe as “the low point of the book… the chapter I found hardest to read,” describing the former Prime Minister’s attempt to deflect blame as “almost gut-wrenching because it was just so craven”.
In the podcast she says that after reading the book she wouldn’t rule out a return to politics for Boris Johnson. “I'd be fairly certain that at some point between now and the next general election, there will be an attempted Boris Johnson comeback as leader of the Tory party.”
