Keir Starmer and Labour have announced that the voting age will be reduced to 16 in future elections. Many suspect this change was in part motivated by a prediction that young people will vote Labour.
However, statistics suggest Britain has a deep problem of economic hopelessness among the young. The high cost of housing and education, paired with low expectations of wage growth, are reflected in young people’s motivation to train or to work, and in how they think about their economic future.
