NYPD Public Attack OK Under NYC Mayor? Disgraceful and Disrespectful.

Back from a forced medical break, Chris Piehota, retired FBI Special Agent, covers video footage out of New York City that is flat-out disgraceful. NYPD officers are being pelted with snowballs and ice balls—hard objects thrown at their heads and faces—while the crowd cheers and escalates the chaos. This wasn’t “fun.” It wasn’t a harmless winter moment. It was a public attack on law enforcement. What makes it worse is the signal coming from leadership. When city officials and prosecutors communicate that assaults on police will be minimized, excused, or quietly dropped, you create permission structures for more violence. And when the community treats officers with open contempt, you degrade public safety for everyone—because you’re undermining the very people we rely on to confront dangerous situations on our behalf. Bottom Line: “ice balls” are not meaningfully different from other hard thrown objects, and the refusal to hold offenders directly accountable can accelerate disorder. If this is the new normal, we’re in serious trouble.
