Indiana Citizen Unlawfully Arrested For Speaking During a City Council Meeting!

Although Kristopher H. Bilbrey has been politically active his entire life, working for numerous candidates and campaigns at the local, state, and national levels, it wasn't until he ran for office a second time in the spring of 2015 that he began to see things differently. He was running for a "small-town" At-Large City Council position! Specifically, he was running in Winchester, Indiana—a community with just over 5,000 residents at the time. Bilbrey had lived there for roughly five years when he decided to run for office. He only decided to run after attending nearly a year of City Council meetings and realizing that things were in bad shape, and none of the citizens seemed to know or care.

Bilbrey, who had spent most of his life in Muncie, Delaware County (a much larger city and county than Winchester/Randolph County), had dipped his toes into hardcore, crazy, corrupt politics... he thought he knew... BUT HE HAD NO IDEA!

It was just as bad in Winchester, if not worse! After losing the race in May 2015, he vowed to remain heavily involved in ensuring people remained informed, a commitment that was met with considerable resistance.

In 2016, he began writing, blogging, and using social media. When a major fight broke out between the City of Winchester & Bilbrey, along with his neighbors, he knew he had to grab people's attention.

That was the beginning of 'Bilbrey LIVE!', a live streaming show he shared on social media, intended just for his neighbors and the other residents of Winchester. But it grew and expanded! Soon, others asked for help in different cities and counties. And Bilbrey said yes!

Later, in November 2017, the Mayor of Winchester, along with the City Council, the City Police, and the City Attorney, decided to make an example out of Bilbrey. During a special City Council meeting on Monday, November 27, 2017, Bilbrey said: "YOU'RE OUT OF ORDER, THIS WHOLE PLACE IS OUT OF ORDER! THIS IS A JOKE!"

And for that, he was arrested! UNLAWFULLY and UNJUSTLY, and he was booked into the Randolph County Jail for "DISORDERLY CONDUCT"... this did not stop Bilbrey; it only made him stronger! More and more people started joining the fight and listening to him.

A Special Prosecutor declared the arrest was unlawful and chose not to file formal criminal charges. Worse for the city, the Special Prosecutor also wrote a memorandum stating the arrest was unjust and that the police should have known better! Bilbrey's speech was constitutionally protected, political free speech! A federal lawsuit was filed, and Bilbrey emerged as the victor.

After the legal proceedings, the Mayor attempted to run for a higher office but was defeated; he subsequently left politics following that loss. Three City Councilors left the Council shortly afterward, and both the Police and Fire Chiefs moved on from Winchester!

With some of the money won in the lawsuit, Bilbrey purchased the necessary tools for an audio podcast... and 'Perception IS Reality w/Kristopher H. Bilbrey' was born! From there came 'The Bastards of Politics' and then... 'THE POLITICAL SPOTLIGHT!'
