Do Justice! Love Mercy! & Be Humble! Sheriff Sproles' Style

Henry County, Indiana Sheriff John Sproles is still having a rough "first year" as the Elected Sheriff of Henry County, Indiana... even as 2023 draws to a close. Even when the Sheriff is minding his "P's & Q's", and even though he has been pretty quiet the last few months, it never takes long for some kind of nonsense to creep up and make him look foolish!

Take the events of the last few weeks of November 2023 for example!

Coming off of the Thanksgiving 2023 Holiday... the Henry County Jail was rocked by the unfortunate death of a female inmate at the jail! Of course because it was an "in custody death" it automatically becomes an investigation!

According to a release from the Henry County Sheriff's Department, the inmate, 40-year-old Heather Nicole Goodman, of Anderson, was being held in a "medical holding cell" with no other inmates at the time of her death. She was reported to have laid down in a bed at about 9:30 p.m. Thursday (November 23rd, 2023) "after normal activity," the release said.

When jail staff arrived to serve Goodman breakfast at 5:05 a.m. on Friday (November 24th, 2023), they noted she "appeared deceased" on the bed. Emergency medical personnel were called to the scene, and the Anderson woman was pronounced dead. The Henry County Major Incident Team — including sheriff's deputies, New Castle police and Indiana State Police — is investigating the death. Henry County Sheriff John Sproles said he was notified of the death at 5:34 a.m., adding that his prayers were "with the family and friends of Heather Goodman during this difficult time of loss."

Goodman had been transferred to the Henry County jail on Monday, November 20th, 2023... just three days after being arrested in Madison County. Back on August 31st, 2023, she had pleaded guilty in Henry Circuit Court 2 to "possession of a narcotic drug"... in October of 2023, a petition was filed to revoke her suspended sentence in that case.

While an autopsy was preformed on Tuesday, November 28th, 2023... cause of death is pending, waiting on the toxicology screen to return, which could take 4-6 weeks! While everyone has to wait for that for any kind of answers or closure... rumors abound and gossip spreads!

In a rather odd act, after such a somber incident, just 5 days later, the Sheriff met with all of the Jail Staff, during an evening meal! At that Staff meeting, some say the Sheriff engaged in questionable behavior for an Elected, Governmental, Official... and it is THIS meeting & Sheriff Sproles' actions at this meeting that caught the eye of 'The Political Spotlight' team.
