#173 | The City of Muncie’s Transparency Problem | The Political Spotlight

On Monday, April 1st, 2024 the Muncie, Indiana City Council held a Public Hearing at 6:45p & then a "regularly scheduled, monthly Council Meeting" at 7p... the way they always do! The Hearing & the Meeting were both open to the public and they were both supposed to be LIVE STREAMED on Social Media.

Only that is NOT what happened... and for the first time, in a LONG TIME, neither the Public Hearing, nor the Council Meeting were LIVE STREAMED, allegedly due to "TECH ISSUES!"

And now, let's face it, "tech issues" do pop-up causing problems... but when issues like this arise, people in those positions are expected to "adapt and overcome!" Which, is what it sounded like they were doing, at first, when word came out that the Hearing & the Meeting would start and they would be recorded, since they couldn't be STREAMED... and once it was all over, the fully recorded Hearing & Meeting would be uploaded, which seemed reasonable, because it is something that has been done before, with ZERO issues!

However, when everything was over late Monday and nothing was posted, 'The Political Spotlight' team, along with various citizens, wondered where the recording was?

When asked about the recording, mid-morning, on Tuesday, April 2nd, 2024... the City's Communications Director stated that the video guy, "Mark", was "working with tech support, and they anticipated that it would be uploaded by early that afternoon."

But then on Wednesday, April 3rd, 2024... the City's Communications Director posted the following comment... only after receiving multiple questions about the video:

"Due to software error, we were not able to record Monday's City Council Meeting. Our tech team has spent hours ensuring that this issue does not interfere with future public meetings, but unfortunately we are unable to post video from Monday's meeting. Minutes were recorded and will be made public as always."

Monday's Council Meeting just so happened to be one of the most controversial meetings this current Council has sat through and it will have long lasting implications for MANY for years and years to come!
