Outgoing Commissioner James King Wont Allow a Tax Paying Citizen to Speak During a Public Meeting!

Delaware County, Indiana (CowBoi Kid) Commissioner James King DOES NOT ALLOW a tax-paying citizen of the County to speak at the end of the "PUBLIC COMMENTS" section, right at the end of a Commissioners' Meeting on Monday, August 19th, 2024.

During the second meeting in August 2024 of the Delaware County Commissioners, a small group of citizens (5) had decided to speak during the "Public Comments" section at the end of the meeting. The citizens wanted to address a very specific issue with their three elected Commissioners:

- James King (Republican - Presiding Commissioner sitting middle). . .

- Sherry Riggin (Republican - sitting right of middle). . .

- Shannon Henry (Republican - sitting left of middle). . .

Many citizens in Delaware County have been upset over various "solar projects" that have been trying to get off the ground. The 5 citizens speaking at this specific meeting were there because a solar energy company called: "National Grid Renewables" has been trying to grab up high-value farm land all around their homes in the middle of the county (Hamilton Township/Royerton area). This company is just one of several that have been in a mad dash to try and turn massive areas of fertile farm ground into solar fields as far as the eye can see.

This has been going on in other areas throughout Delaware County since 2021 & 2022, and while it has been a MAJOR FIGHT... citizens have had some luck, at holding the various companies at bay. However, it has NOT been with the help of the Delaware County Commissioners or a majority of the Delaware County Council. It has been extremely apparent that the three Commissioners, and most of the Council simply do not care about the major change "solar" would cause.

This Commissioners' Meeting from gavel to gavel (start to end) was only 48 minutes and 53 seconds. That is a quick meeting for the Delaware County Commissioners and honestly, the "business portion" of the meeting was only 15 minutes and 40 seconds. The remaining 33 minutes was all taken up with "Public Comments." This was an EASY meeting! There were a total of 8 speakers, of which, 3 were there to talk about other issues. The other 5 speakers were there to discuss the "solar issue."

This 60 second clip shows Commissioner James King asking someone if they were "there at the meeting before 9 o'clock?" A woman can then be heard responding, however, her words were muffled. Commissioner King then goes on with some excuse for why he WILL NOT let her speak at the meeting! He then asks her to come back, to address her concerns later, even though they were all right there! Neither of the other two Commissioners speak up on her behalf.

THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE! THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE PUBLIC SERVANTS! AND IT IS HIGH TIME THEY REMEMBER THAT!

(It's important to note that Commissioner King was up for re-election during this 2024 Election year. But he LOST in the May Primary. He was beat by fellow Republican, Stephen Brand. Brand will face off with a Democrat opponent in November of 2024 to determine who moves on to become the District 1 Delaware County Commissioner for the next 4 year term (January 1st, 2025 - December 31st, 2028).
