Eastwood... referencing an update in the "Whitestown Shooting Investigation."
32-year-old Maria Florinda Rios del Velazquez was fatally shot after she and her husband mistakenly arrived at the wrong house for work in Whitestown, Indiana, early Wednesday morning, November 5, 2025.
The homeowner was 62-year-old Curt D. Andersen, and for reasons still unknown, he and his wife thought Maria and her husband were attempting to break in, which led Mr. Andersen to call 911 at 6:49 a.m. By 6:54 a.m., one shot was fired through the door, striking and killing Maria.
This case has attracted attention from news agencies worldwide and has become a contentious issue. Many hope the prosecutor's office files serious charges against Andersen, while others see this as a terrible tragedy and believe Andersen fired the gun out of fear. They attribute this to "Self Defense" and Indiana's "Castle Doctrine."
Prosecutor Eastwood filed a single count of voluntary manslaughter (a level 2 felony) against Curt D. Andersen. He was arrested on a warrant without incident before the press conference and is currently in jail, without bond, as of the end of the press conference.
