Bernie Sanders Gives Jeremy Corbyn And Labour Party A Shoutout And Says He's "Impressed" With Corbyn

Bernie Sanders ‘impressed’ by UK candidate Jeremy Corbyn. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) heaped praise on Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn this week, saying he was "impressed" by the U.K. candidate's willingness to talk about class issues.

“I am also impressed by his willingness to talk about class issues,” the former Democratic presidential candidate said Thursday during a U.K. speaking tour promoting his book.

“Too many people run away from the grotesque levels of income and wealth inequality that exist in the United States, the UK and all over the world," Sanders said. "We will never make the kind of changes we need unless we take on the levels of inequality that exist." Sanders pointed out similarities between anti-establishment movements that he and Corbyn have pushed.

“What has impressed me – and there is a real similarity between what he has done and what I did – is he has taken on the establishment of the Labour Party, he has gone to the grassroots and he has tried to transform that party … and that is exactly what I am trying to do,” Sanders said. The British politician tweeted a pro-Labour ad Friday titled “We Demand,” calling for economic equality. Corbyn’s Labour Party will face off with Prime Minister Theresa May’s Conservative Party on June 8, after May called for a snap election in April in the wake of Brexit negotiations.

Sander’s praise for Corbyn comes after a recent YouGov poll shows Labour trailing the Conservatives by just 3 points.

“I don’t think Jeremy Corbyn needs my advice,” Sanders continued. “I think he is doing quite well. Nor do the people of the U.K. need my advice on who to vote for. I think they understand. But I have been very impressed by the campaign that he has been running and I wish him the very best.” At the first event on his whirlwind speaking tour of the UK Thursday, Bernie Sanders had nothing but praise for Jeremy Corbyn, the left-wing leader of the UK's Labour Party, which is currently experiencing a surge in support ahead of next week's general election. Speaking to an audience in Brighton, a seaside town on the south coast of England, Sanders praised Corbyn's willingness to address issues such as wealth inequality, poverty and class. "Too many people run away from ... the grotesque levels of income and wealth inequality that exist in the United States, that exist in the UK, and exist all over the world," he said. "Globalization has left far too many people behind," he said. "The wealthiest people on this planet, regardless of where they live, are doing phenomenally well, while at the same time workers all over the world are seeing a decline in their standard of living." He likened Corbyn's rejection of mainstream politics to his own.

"What has impressed me -- and there is a real similarity between what he has done and what I have done -- he has taken on the establishment of the Labour party and gone to the grassroots. And he has tried to transform that party and take on a lot of establishment opposition.
