‘This is compassion’: Unearthed 2011 video shows Trump defending undocumented families. here may be a Trump tweet for every occasion, but in the case of the soon-to-be-cancelled Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, there’s an interview. On Monday, CNN’s Andrew Kaczynski tweeted a video of an interview President Donald Trump gave in 2011 that appears to be in defense of keeping undocumented families in the United States. “You ask Michele [Bachmann] to actually, physically go across the street and tell the family of 25 years to get out of this country, she wouldn’t do it because she’s a good person,” Trump said in a Fox News phone interview.
Ironically, the Fox News reporters in the 2011 segment go on to call out Mitt Romney for contradicting his previous statements about undocumented people.
“This isn’t conservative,” Trump continued, appearing to criticize the notion that the topic of illegal immigration is purely political. “This is compassion.” In a second short clip Kaczynski shared, Trump makes the same argument for keeping undocumented people who call America home that many pro-DACA activists make.
“You have people in this country for 20 years, they’ve done a great job, they’ve done wonderfully, they’ve gone to school, they’ve gotten good marks, they’re productive — now we’re supposed to send them out of the country?” he said. “I don’t believe in that.”
