2:42Now PlayingRichard Sherman Explains Why Colin Kaepernick Is Being Blackballed For Protesting While QBs Sucking
Richard Sherman defends Kaepernick, calls NFL QB play 'terrible'. As the Seahawks prepare to host the San Francisco 49ers this Sunday, Richard Sherman is hoping to get ahead of any potential questions about the Bay Area team's former quarterback, Colin Kaepernick. "We're on to San Fran and that's always been a huge rivalry for us. We're looking forward to the challenge," Sherman said on his weekly web series "Out Of Context," which airs on the The Players' Tribune. "We're on to San Fran and that's always been a huge rivalry for us. We're looking forward to the challenge," Sherman said on his weekly web series "Out Of Context," which airs on the The Players' Tribune. "But naturally, we're playing San Fran, they're going to ask about Kaepernick, and does he deserve a job. Of course he deserves a job. You saw the quarterback play throughout the league and it was terrible." There are numbers to strengthen Sherman's argument. Several quarterbacks posted disappointing stat lines in week one, many of those names being ones not often associated with having starter talent. San Francisco's Brian Hoyer posted a 70.3 passer rating in a loss to Carolina. Houston's Tom Savage was benched at halftime and had a passer rating of 66.8. Luke McCown of the New York Jets attempted 39 passes but threw for only 187 yards, was intercepted twice and had a passer rating of 56.2 in a loss to the Bills. Then there are the Indianapolis Colts, who are without their franchise QB Andrew Luck and trotted out Scott Tolzien on Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams. Tolzien, a five-year veteran who before week one had made just three career starts, completed 9 of 18 passes for 128 yards and threw two interceptions that were returned for touchdowns (passer rating: 33.8).
