YouTube Description
as posted by the channelThis famous picture depicting human evolution from a monkey or a currently existing ape is completely wrong. It's so bad scientists have called for it to be banished from education. Even people like Tim Allen and current political candidate Herschel Walker ask the question: "well if we evolved from apes, why are apes still living"? It's a complete misunderstanding of not only who we evolved from, but also how evolution works in it's entirety. The problems are that it
1) makes it seem like we came from currently existing apes, like monkeys
2) life or human life evolution is linear
3) that there is a linear evolutionary superiority
4) doesn't show that evolution is actually like a bush, not a straight line
"We did not evolve from a modern, living ape, like a chimpanzee. We evolved and descended from the common ancestor of apes, which lived and died in the distant past. This means that we are related to other apes and that we are apes ourselves. And alongside us, the other living ape species have also evolved from that same common ancestor, and exist today in the wild and zoos."
