New FAU poll shows Trump only up by 3 points over Harris in Florida, 50%-47%
The survey also shows Amendments 3 and 4 coming up short at the moment
A new poll conducted by Florida Atlantic University Political Communication and Public Opinion Research Lab of more than 1,000 Florida registered likely voters shows that Democrat Kamala Harris is within striking distance of Donald Trump in the state.
The former president leads the vice president by just three percentage points, 50%-47%, in the survey. Only 2% support another candidate and 1% are undecided.
If Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is on the ballot in Florida (which he now is), Trump continues to lead Harris by three points, 47%-44%, with Kennedy Jr. getting 5%. Among “likely” voters with Kennedy Jr. on the ballot, the gap between Trump and Harris narrows to 2 points, 47%-45%.
“The narrowing gap between Trump and Harris is consistent with the tightening we have seen in other states,” said Kevin Wagner, professor of political science and co-director of the PolCom Lab in a statement accompanying the poll. “If this trend holds, we may see a competitive race in Florida.”
“Donald Trump and Rick Scott are in trouble in Florida,” said FDP Chair Nikki Fried in a statement. “Kamala Harris has generated an unprecedented level of enthusiasm and excitement on the ground in Florida, and these poll results prove that. Since their last poll in April, Trump has gained no ground with Florida voters — because Democrats, NPAs, and moderate Republicans aren’t buying the extreme Project 2025 agenda he, Rick Scott, and Florida Republicans are selling.
When FAU polled Florida voters in April, President Joe Biden trailed Trump by 8% among likely voters.
The poll authors say that this trend “offers the Democratic Party hope of catching up with Trump in the remaining campaign period. However, Trump’s support has remained stable since April, indicating that Harris’ gains are primarily from strengthening support within traditional Democratic bases, such as women, Black voters, younger voters, and Democratic Party loyalists.”
“Kamala Harris restores the traditional base of the Democratic Party, which includes women, minorities, younger voters, and Democratic Party identifiers,” said Dukhong Kim, associate professor of political science at FAU. “While Donald Trump maintains his own established base.”
This is the third public opinion survey on the Trump-Harris race in Florida published this week. A USA Today/Suffolk University/WSVN survey shows Trump leading Harris 47%-42, while an Associated Industries of Florida poll had Trump up 52%-44%.
