Stepfire vs JS Urban Adventures — moderated by Sara (The Raging Tomato)
In this deep theological and philosophical debate, we tackle one of the most fundamental questions in Christianity, philosophy, and human existence:
Do we have free will?
Stepfire argues the affirmative: Free will is real and necessary. Without it, moral responsibility collapses, God becomes the author of evil, commands to love become meaningless, and the gospel itself is undermined. He defends the ability to genuinely choose between alternatives, even with influences present, and argues determinism creates massive contradictions with God’s justice, goodness, and scripture.
JS Urban Adventures takes the negative: There is no free will — all choices are determined by prior causes, needs, wants, biology, instincts, or ultimately God’s sovereign will. He argues that scripture supports predestination, human actions are never truly free from influence or necessity, and free will is an incoherent illusion that contradicts God’s omniscience, omnipotence, and control over all things.
Expect sharp arguments on:
Definitions of free will and determinism
Biblical compatibility (predestination, commands to love, Adam & Eve, God’s foreknowledge vs. causation)
Moral responsibility, punishment, good vs. evil, and the gospel
Biological and subconscious influences (instincts, muscle memory, brain conditions)
Theological implications (does determinism make God the author of sin?)
The first ~2 hours feature a structured debate with openings, rebuttals, and closings. Then we switch to full OPEN PANEL GAUNTLET mode — audience members jump in, challenge both sides, drop superchats, and turn it into an intellectual free-for-all.
Warning: This one dives deep into theology, scripture, philosophy, and gets heated with strong disagreements on God’s nature, morality, and human agency.
