Ought the United States comply with international law?
Whick argues the affirmative: The US should comply with international law (treaties, conventions, norms like the Geneva Conventions, WTO, and post-WWII order) because it reduces global conflict, maintains economic stability, builds legitimacy, and strengthens long-term US power against rivals like China and Russia. Abandoning the rules-based system risks chaos, as seen before WWII.
Ryan Mullally takes the negative: There is no moral or binding “ought” for the US to comply.
