as posted by the channelBetween 20,000 and 12,000 years ago, the Nile was a seasonal braided river bringing mixed sediments down to Egypt and Sudan during a cold, dry climate interval. That changed dramatically around 12,500 years ago when Lake Victoria overflowed and higher rainfall in Ethiopia sent extraordinary floods down the main Nile. These weren't normal floods - they've been documented at 120 feet above the modern floodplain. Any civilization living along the Nile at that time would have been forced to abandon their settlements in the face of this intensified hydraulic regime. This isn't speculation about what might have happened. The geological evidence shows catastrophic flooding that would have made riverside habitation impossible, right at the transition point when the cold, dry period ended and the hydrological system fundamentally shifted.
