Etowah Mound sits about an hour north of Atlanta in Georgia - a significant monumental earthwork with an on-site museum presenting the standard account of the Native American cultural groups credited with its construction. Randall has visited the museum and reviewed the displays. There is no mention of what the original excavations actually turned up.

The site was excavated in the 1940s and 1950s. Randall has photocopies of the original excavation reports from that period. Those reports explicitly document the discovery of skeletal remains measuring seven feet and above - significantly outside the normal range of human stature and directly relevant to any serious discussion of who built these structures and what culture they represented.

None of that appears in the museum. The displays cover the cultural context, the artefacts, the presumed builders. The skeletal anomalies are simply absent - not disputed, not addressed, not acknowledged. Randall's question is the obvious one. If the original excavators found something significant enough to document explicitly in their reports, why does the institution built on that site make no mention of it whatsoever?
