He breaks down the fundamental difference between two impact events: one carved a crater, the other vanished in the air. The Arizona impact left behind Meteor Crater because it was dense metallic iron, roughly 150 feet across. The Tunguska object, by contrast, was likely a low-density comet fragment, almost like a frozen mass with debris locked inside. Both were similar in size, but their outcomes could not have been more different. The iron punched through and dug a hole. The comet exploded before it ever reached the ground, vaporizing almost completely. That is why we have no fragments, no crater, just the blast zone. Size matters, but so does composition: a big enough low-density object can still penetrate the atmosphere and strike the surface if the conditions align.
