He traces the Atlantis story back through its chain of transmission, starting with Solon's encounter in Egypt. An elderly priest challenged the Greek understanding of deep history, pointing out that they knew of only one flood while Egyptian records preserved knowledge of at least three. The priest then shared the account of Atlantis, which Solon brought back to Athens and passed through his family line: from nephew to son, from Critias the Elder to Critias the Younger, who finally recounted it in the Socratic dialogues Plato recorded. This wasn't mythology or invention. It was oral tradition preserved across generations, rooted in what the Egyptian priesthood claimed as historical memory far older than anything the Greeks possessed.
