According to a new report, legalizing marijuana nationwide in the United States would generate more than $132 billion in additional federal tax revenue each year and lead to the creation of more than one million jobs. This would be a massive boost to our economy, but instead, the Trump administration (through Jeff Sessions) is launching a new war on weed that could make life a nightmare in areas that have already legalized pot. Ring of Fire’s Farron Cousins discusses this.

A lot of American citizens, who voted for Donald Trump in 2016, were duped by his promises of creating more American jobs and creating a robust economy for everyone to take part in. Now, one year into his presidency, we've seen that not only does he suck at creating jobs, he sucks at preventing companies from shipping their jobs overseas. All those carrier jobs that he claimed he saved about a year ago, they're gone, now, overseas.

Nonetheless, if Donald Trump was actually serious about creating jobs here in the United States and creating a robust economy for all of us to enjoy, there is one very simple thing we could do that would ensure both of those things. That is to legalize marijuana nationwide. According to a new report, legalizing marijuana from coast to coast, border to border, here in the United States, would generate roughly $132 billion in tax revenue per year. In addition to that, it would create more than 1 million new jobs here in the United States just in that legalized marijuana industry. This doesn't even include all of the ripple effects of more people having jobs and more people spending money. Those have ripple effects. They create secondary and tertiary jobs throughout this country.

Instead of that, instead of investing in something and reversing a century long backwards drug policy here in the United States, Jeff Sessions, Donald Trump's attorn general, is launching a brand new war on marijuana. He's actually going after states that have already legalized marijuana. Do you know what's happened in those states, by the way? They have seen an increase in economic revenue and a decrease in overall marijuana usage. When you legalize it, you take away the taboo. You take away part of the, "Oh, this is a dangerous thing I shouldn't be doing, but I'm going to do it anyway, because I'm a rebel." You take that away. Usage has declined in areas where it's legalized.

More importantly than that, because that one really doesn't even matter, is the economic benefits. They're getting marijuana tourists coming to their states to partake and party for a few days if they want to. Bachelor parties, bachelorette parties, are going to these areas to have a little fun. They're spending money and creating more jobs in those areas rather than their own home states, because they're still illegal there.

We are sitting on a real economic goldmine here in the United States. Because of backwards politicians, like Jeff Sessions, and Donald Trump, and many other members of the Republican Party, they want to just say, "No." They want to continue that failed drug policy. They want to continue to make it illegal, which only helps the drug smugglers at our southern border. We could end so many problems here in the United States. I understand it may create a few more. We'll have to change laws to make sure that nobody smokes marijuana and gets behind the wheel of an automobile. I understand that. Those are easy changes to make though.

$132 billion extra per year in tax revenue for the government to spend on road, and bridges, and teachers, and fire departments, and police departments, and schools. That kind of seems like a no brainer though. Unfortunately, our attorney general also happens to be a no brainer.
