The number of Americans who say that they are struggling to cover basic needs has doubled since the Senate failed to extend the increased unemployment benefits that expired at the end of July. This was Mitch McConnell's doing, and he is forcing Americans to go through unnecessary suffering for no reason at all. The extra $600 per week in unemployment benefits that, uh, out of work, Americans were receiving expired at the end of July. And at the time that these expired 27% of people receiving these benefits said that it still wasn't enough to cover their basic expenses. They were falling behind on their bills. They were unable to afford necessities. They still didn't have enough to make ends meet. And again, that expired the last day of July. So all through the month, month of August, which is now behind us, they didn't have that extra money. So what happened in August, we already had 27% of people getting extra 600 bucks still couldn't cover expenses. So what happened in August,

Of the people now receiving unemployment benefits because of the loss of that 600, we're no longer able to cover basic expenses. There is one reason. And one reason alone, why that $600 extra benefit went away. And that one reason is Mitch McConnell, Republican Senate majority leader, Mitch McConnell is the one who allowed that benefit to expire by not taking up the legislation that had passed the democratic controlled house of representatives that included a, an extension of that extra $600 in unemployment benefits. Mitch McConnell refused to do it because he doesn't think out of work, Americans need any help. Oh, they may need help, but he doesn't think they deserve help. The people who deserve help, according to Mitch McConnell are the multibillion dollar corporations who squandered all of their money. Instead of putting it aside for a rainy day, in case they fell on some hard times like they did during COVID-19. Instead of putting that money away, they used it to buy back their own stock. They used it to grant obscene bonuses to their executives, give their CEOs, unwarranted, multimillion dollar salaries, every single year just spend, spend, spend, spend, spend on unnecessary items. And then they fell on hard times and Congress was tripping over itself to see how many billions and billions of billions of dollars they could give to each one of these companies that shouldn't be trusted to manage their own money. They had more money coming in than they knew what to do with.

And it only took about a month for them to run out because they didn't put any in savings. Meanwhile, people working paycheck to paycheck who do not have any extra money, they don't have fun money. They don't have money to go out and spend on whatever they want. There's no expendable income. They have to spend all that money in order to survive. Mitch McConnell chose to punish these people who were already because they didn't put any aside. They didn't have it to put aside for a rainy day, the massive conglomerates dead guess which one mentioned McConnell, bailed out, but you don't have to guess folks we've talked about this enough. You know what happened? Mitch McConnell though right now is forcing American citizens to suffer unnecessarily. And for why? That's the question that's still burning here. Why, why not pay the extra amount in unemployment insurance?
