Ted Cruz Makes A Total Ass Of Himself Again

Republican Senator Ted Cruz wants to think that he is the master of Twitter trolling, but he always manages to come across as a complete idiot. This week, after Texas Democrats left the state to stall a voter suppression bill, Cruz tried to make a comparison showing an ID to buy a plane ticket and showing an ID to vote. He is trying to show that ID's are necessary for certain aspects of life, but social media users were quick to point out the glaring differences between the two events. Ted Cruz loves to think that he is the master of the zinger, that he is able to troll or even own anyone with his words alone. And this week he thought he had a slam dunk attack on the Democrats who left the state of Texas to essentially stall the voter suppression bill that the Republican controlled legislature is trying to get passed. So Ted Cruz on both Twitter and on Fox news goes out there, attacks these Democrats for leaving on what he said was a private jet, and then tried to say, oh, and by the way, I'm sure they had to show ID to get on that private jet, basically comparing it to having to show an ID to vote, which is part of the voter suppression legislation. But it's a small part and it's not even really the thing that Democrats are most upset about. But here is a quote he said.

Ted Cruz said on Fox News, what's your seeing the Democrats do here is a political stunt. And I will say it's ironic as they were getting on their private jet to fly to Washington, DC, they almost surely had to show identification to get on that jet. And yet they're doing this in a fit because they don't want mail-in ballots to be verified. They don't want the signatures to be verified. They don't want basic integrity steps to be strengthened in the state of Texas. Ted, I'm sure you've flown on private jets before. Hell, I've flown on private jets before. And actually every time I've ever flown on a private jet, I've actually never had to show ID. Weird, right? It's weird how that works. However, sure you want to fly commercial. You want to take a private jet from the actual airport, not from private airport, then, yes.

You have to show ID. But as social media users were very quick to point out, since Ted Cruz clearly can't tell the difference, flying is not a right. Nobody in this country is granted at birth or at a certain age, the right to fly on an airplane. Flying is in fact a privilege. And given the fact that terrorists have used American airliners in the past to commit acts of terror. Yeah. It's okay that you have to show your ID to make sure you are who your ticket says you are. Whereas the right to vote, you're guarantee that right if you're an American citizen, when you turn 18 years old, you are guaranteed that right. No caveats, Ted. But you say, well, now you got to show ID and it's okay because everybody's got IDs, right? Not exactly. If you're not a flyer, if you do not drive, you have no need to have an ID.

If you're, you're not a drinker, you have no need to get an ID and believe it or not folks that actually applies to millions of people in this country. And I love how Republicans always turn to the flying issue. Like, well, how do you fly? These low income people that can't even afford an ID, how do you fly from place to place? The answer is they don't. Do you have any idea how few people actually fly every single year here in the United States? Like what percentage of the population, it's ridiculous. Most people don't fly any given year. So no, if that's the only thing you would need an ID for, you would not need an ID. But the bigger issue, Ted, since you're trying to boil this down to just one specific thing in that piece of legislation is that your state wants to do away with mail-in voting. You don't want people to be able to submit their votes by mail.
