Biden Wants Stronger ‘Buy American’ Standards For Federal Government

President Joe Biden is proposing stronger "Buy American" standards for the federal government, with the goal of having 75% of the goods purchased by the government produced in the United States by the year 2029. The government currently spends about $600 billion per year on goods, but only about half of that is mandated to be "American made" goods. The Biden administration for the second time in his very short tenure as president of the United States is working on a proposal to force the United States government to spend more of their yearly budget here at home instead of buying goods from other countries. This new buy American proposal from the Biden administration would say that the federal government has to spend 75% of their budget for goods and things like that here at home and only 25% can be foreign goods. The only issue I have with this is that it's a gradual increase up from, I think, 55% to 75% over the next eight years. Um, I don't think you need eight years. I think you could say, listen, you got 12 months. Figure it out. I know we can do it. Hell, even if you gave them three years, I'm sure that'd be plenty of time. Eight years gives all these government agencies plenty of time to drag their feet and really not get there soon enough.

But anyway, it's a good plan. Okay. I'm going to nitpick things here and there. Yes. But overall government spending 75% of their $600 billion a year that they spend on goods, spending 75% of that here at home, that is a step up from spending only half of it here at home. And again, this is for quite literally everything, whether it's helicopters and helicopter blades, whether it's Mack trucks for the federal government or whether it's office furniture. We are spending too much of our money overseas just to get a better deal on things, right? Meanwhile, we're screwing over the US economy while being told by virtue signalers that we, the independent consumers, are to blame for the death of small businesses here in the United States. You average consumer have to be more responsible with where you spend your money. You don't go to big box stores.

You need to go to the local store down the street. While there's plenty of truth to that, to say that we're the ones destroying businesses here in the United States is, well, it's a lie. The federal government, as I mentioned, spent $600 billion a year on these types of goods. And right now about half of that is going overseas, roughly 300 billion a year, just going overseas when all of that could be spent here in the United States. Oh, you need new office furniture. What, we don't manufacture office furniture here in the United States? We do. Oh, you need a helicopter blade. You mean to tell me that nowhere in the United States is a company putting out helicopter blades? We have Boeing, Lockheed Martin, all of these other companies involved in the aerospace industry and none of them have a helicopter blade they could sell you. Huh? Yeah. Little hard to isn't it? The federal government, let's be honest, should have been buying American from the beginning.

And if they do go along with Biden's proposal, if this does become law of the land, what this is going to do is it's going to obviously stimulate the US economy. This could be an additional $150 billion a year spent here at home. Would create countless jobs throughout the country. It would be an overall net benefit to us, which is why it annoys me that we're putting an eight year timeframe on it. It doesn't have to take that long. Okay. We need this money injected into the US economy now, not eight years from now, although I'm sure we're going to need it eight years from now anyway, but you get what I mean. This is a good plan.
