DeSantis has done everything possible to create the perfect breeding ground for the virus, and the state is once again at the point of having hospitals overflowing with patients as we watch tens of thousands of new cases pop up each and every week. Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins explains what is happening and why everyone should be paying attention.

Doctors in the state of Florida are finally speaking out against Republican governor, Ron DeSantis, who has apparently decided to side with the Delta variant of the Coronavirus over the needs and desires of his own people here in the state of Florida. Here's what doctors in the state have come out and said this week, Florida doctors say they're angry and ashamed over governor Ron DeSantis' response to the resurgent Coronavirus. The high profile Republican has repeatedly criticized federal public health guidance and vowed not to institute new lockdowns or mask mandates even as the state becomes the national epicenter of the virus with the Delta variant ravaging the unvaccinated segments of the population. While hospitals in our state are filling up, DeSantis was shouting about freedom over Fauci-ism, Bernard Ashby, a Miami cardiologist who leads the state's committee to protect healthcare, told WLRN.
If DeSantis were as concerned about stopping COVID-19 spread, as he was about coming up with these clever jabs at Dr. Fauci, we might not be in this position. You know, folks, I don't know about you, but, uh, I would say probably 97% of the time, I'm going to side with a medical expert over a politician, regardless of who that politician is, by the way. If it's a matter of public health, listen to the people who deal with the public's health over the people who get campaign donations for drumming up controversy, like Ron DeSantis. These doctors know what they're doing because they're the ones who are out there actually doing it. Ron DeSantis isn't. Ron DeSantis gets to travel around the country, give his idiotic little speeches, come back to Florida, sell his anti-Fauci gear, go out there and say, oh gee, whiz. It'd be great if you were vaccinated. But I'm not going to force it.
Let the cruise ships start coming in Florida and oh, guess what? They're all having massive COVID outbreaks, of course. And this is what we get. And if they reelect him, this is what we deserve. But these doctors know what they're talking about. They're the ones who have to hold people's hands as they take their last breath as they die from COVID. They have seen it firsthand whereas Ron DeSantis has not. I'm going to listen to the doctors over DeSantis. But DeSantis has already made it clear. You can't protect your children. You can't protect yourself and the cities and municipalities and school districts and whoever, they cannot force anyone to wear a mask because if they do, I'm cutting their funding. This man is a tyrant who is drunk with power, who has clearly sided with the virus itself. This makes no sense. This makes absolutely no sense.
What do you have to gain politically from your base dying off from this variant? What do you have to gain politically from the rest of the country looking at you and saying, holy crap, that guy is a fool. Louisiana, just instituted a statewide mask mandate. Alabama and Mississippi may not be that far off either. But one thing's for certain, their governors have not signed orders, at least that I know of, that are preventing cities from putting their own mask mandates in place. So even some of these other deep red states down here in the American South, they're looking at this and saying, holy crap, we have to protect our people, but not DeSantis.
