To add insult to injury, the state of Texas has also requested 5 additional temporary FEMA morgues to deal with a surge in COVID deaths in the state. Late yesterday afternoon, it was announced that Texas' Republican governor Greg Abbott has tested positive for COVID-19. Now Abbott is not only vaccinated, but he's also had a third booster of the COVID-19 vaccine and still managed to catch the virus, partly because the man has taken absolutely no other precautions to protect himself. The night before, okay, Monday evening Abbott is at an event and if you've seen pictures, it looks like there's well over a hundred people, not a mask in sight, and Abbott's going around talking to people face to face. And then of course, the next day he says, oops, I have COVID. But what's even more embarrassing for the state is the fact that yesterday they also asked the federal government to send five temporary FEMA morgues to the state because they're anticipating a massive surge in the number of COVID deaths in the state of Texas. So many dead bodies from COVID that they need more temporary FEMA morgues and Abbott still refuses to allow counties in his state to implement mask mandates.
Even as he himself contracts COVID, oh, but don't worry. He's receiving that Regeneron treatment, you know, so he's probably going to be fine because of course he can get the best treatments that money can buy. His constituents cannot. They get FEMA morgues, he gets Regeneron. That's what's happening in the state of Texas today. Most of this was avoidable. We could avoid deaths, deaths, if Abbott had not signed that ban on mask mandates. We could avoid deaths if he was more fervent in his push to get his citizens vaccinated. But he chose not to do any of that. He chose partisan pandering rather than actually listening to the science and protecting his own residents and this is what happens as a result of that. He gets COVID. You get a cold FEMA trailer for your relatives to come and identify your body. That is Texas today under the leadership of Republican governor, Greg Abbott.
