The suspect that threatened Capitol Hill this week was apparently a huge Trump fan, according to his posts on social media. In fact, he had shared a video of Donald Trump, Jr. the day before he went to the Capitol. This is not surprising, as both judges and the Department of Homeland Security had warned us that incidents like this would happen more and more frequently as Trump and his followers continue to spread "The Big Lie." Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins discusses this.

Yesterday authorities were involved in an hours long standoff with a, well, with a Trump supporter who was threatening to detonate a bomb on Capitol Hill. And we know this individual is a Trump supporter because of their social media posts. One of the last things this guy posted on his Facebook page, was actually sharing a video of Donald Trump Jr. He had repeatedly criticized and trashed Joe Biden. He had attacked Greta Thunberg. He had gone after the Democratic governor of North Carolina. This was a man who based on what we can tell from social media, absolutely hated Democrats, but loved Donald Trump, loved the big lie, you know, the election was stolen and all that, and I'm not going to name the individual. You can find that in reports if you so choose, but I'm not going to name his name here. But here's the thing. This what happened yesterday was exactly what the US Department of Homeland Security has been warning us for many months could possibly happen. Now, I have talked about that multiple times here on Ring of Fire.
The fact that the Homeland Security has been warning us because of the continued lies and misinformation out there coming from people like Donald Trump, his supporters are going to become even more rabid than what we saw on January 6th. Oh, and by the way, the Capitol bomb suspect says that January 6th was just a beta test, just a beta test. So yes, this is an individual who had violence on his mind and then he goes and threatens to bomb Capitol Hill. DHS has been warning us about these, these folks. And Donald Trump, Trump Jr. and far too many Republicans are still out there to this day, spreading the lies, spreading the hate, spreading the misinformation that is getting their base all riled up to do crazy unspeakable things. And for the record, it's not just Homeland Security that's warning us about this. The judges who have overseen the cases of the Capitol rioters have said the exact same thing, that these individuals were pushed over the edge by the non-stop lies and disinformation coming from Republicans led by Donald Trump and they're likely to do it again if these lies don't stop.
And this is what we end up with. Maybe it's time, we start listening to the smart people. Maybe it's time we start taking what they say at face value when they warn us, hey, the situations are ripe for something like this to happen again. Maybe we ought to start listening to that. And I know Facebook and Twitter, they allow you to report problematic posts and this guy had plenty of problematic posts implying that he might go and commit an act of violence. So where were the moderators on that, right? We need better reporting methods. So then individuals can see this and say, hang on. This doesn't seem quite right. Maybe somebody should keep an eye on this individual who's threatening violence against the federal government. Now we don't want to live in a police state by any stretch of the imagination. We don't want people monitoring every single thing we post on social media. Absolutely not. But the warning signs were there for this guy and they were completely ignored. How many other individuals are out there throwing up red flags that we don't know about?
