Poll Shows Pro COVID Governors Are Tanking Their Own Party

The latest polling shows that a majority of Americans are AGAINST bans on mask mandates in their states, even though Republican governors are working overtime to make sure that no city or school district can mandate these protections. This could easily come back to bite these Republicans, and it should. The number of daily COVID cases is rising throughout the country, with the South (controlled almost solidly by Republicans) seeing the strongest surges. A new poll came out this week from Axios that actually has some really, really bad news for Republican governors like Greg Abbott and Ron DeSantis and Asa Hutchinson and Tate Reeves, from Mississippi. And this new poll found that 66% of Americans oppose statewide prohibition of local mask mandates while only 33% favor them, 77% oppose efforts to withhold funding from school districts and local governments that implement mask mandates. This is the first public opinion poll that has come out on these specific issues and it's telling us that voters are not happy with what these Republican governors down here in the South are doing. Now that's a huge step forward. The fact that these governors are now squarely on the wrong side of public opinion in addition to, as they have been, being on the wrong side of science, on the wrong side of humanity and on the wrong side of just basic public decency. And now the public is looking at them and saying, I don't like this. I don't like what your doing here. So yes, this is a big deal. Sure, it's only one poll.

It's the first poll on this issue. But now that others, or now that this group obviously has started polling on this, others are going to follow suit. We're going to see more public opinion polling on these issues and hopefully the numbers continue to rise. And these Republican governors understand that they are facing a massive backlash that could come back to haunt them in 2022. Now here's what needs to happen. Democrats need to start running ads. I've already talked about in a segment this week the fact that Florida is averaging 50 kids a day going to the hospital with COVID-19. You have Texas governor Greg Abbott, who himself has COVID, begging for more temporary FEMA morgues. You have Hutchinson in Arkansas saying, oh, I wish I hadn't signed a ban on mask mandates, but there's nothing I can do. You have Tate Reeves from Mississippi saying that, oh, COVID in kids is basically the sniffles. He said that last week. 24 hours later, an eighth grader died of COVID in his state. A couple days later, another eighth grader died of COVID in his state. These are ads. These are political attack ads that the Democratic party needs to be running nonstop, not just in the South, but all over the country.

Every single thing I just mentioned is an ad in and of itself. And I know we do have some wonderful groups out there, MeidasTouch does a phenomenal job of doing things like this, but that's, that's not enough. We need more of it or we need people to start donating money to them so they can run it nationally. But honestly, this is what the National Democratic party should be doing. This is their job. We shouldn't have to rely on these outside groups, even though their work is great again, but we shouldn't have to rely on them to do the work that the Democratic party refuses to do. Get out there and start reminding the public of how horrible things are down here. Start reminding people who's responsible. Start reminding people of the decisions these governors made that are sending their residents to an early grave. Well, I guess even before the early grave, sending them to a temporary FEMA morgue outside in a trailer. Remind people of that. I think that would be pretty powerful.
