California Is STILL On Fire And No One Seems To Care

Portions of the state of California are still on fire right now, and the media couldn't care less. The Caldor Fire has now been burning for over 2 weeks, and is threatening the popular tourist area of Lake Tahoe - a major economic driver for communities in both California and Nevada. The media doesn't seem to devote as much time to these obvious climate emergencies anymore, and that includes the coverage of Hurricane Ida that brought havoc to Louisiana this week. Portions of the state of California are still on fire. In the last few weeks, we have had new fires show up in California. Some that have been burning for several weeks now. The Caldor fire, which is now threatening the Lake Tahoe region, destroyed a thousand buildings, got thousands of firefighters working on it. They can't contain it. You've now got high winds in the area that are helping the fire to spread. And my question is where in the hell is the coverage of this? We have seen portions of California on fire for a good portion of this past summer and nobody seems to care. Oh, sure, there is scant coverage here and there. A quick little story, a quick little throw to, oh, best of luck to the firefighters. God bless you all. Sure, sure.

But these are sustained environmental problems that are just totally being ignored. The Tahoe region in both Nevada and California, because it straddles the border, is hugely important for those local communities because of the tourism that it drives. If this beautiful part of the country is destroyed, it's also going to destroy those communities for quite some time. They may not be the biggest economic drivers for the states, but those communities, those towns, those cities are 100% dependent upon that tourism some year round and it's burning to the ground, folks. On a similar note, hurricane Ida, hurricane Ida made landfall just days ago as one of the strongest, not largest, but strongest hurricanes ever to make landfall in the United States.

Portions of Louisiana are still underwater. And no, no, nobody gives a. Nobody gives a anymore. Oh, we've seen too many fires. We've seen so many hurricanes. We have seen so many floods and natural disasters. Oh my God, we get it. The planet's dying. Let's move on. No, no. You don't get to just move on. You don't get to make the decision to just not cover human suffering as a result of anthropogenic climate change, you just don't get to do that. I don't care if it doesn't bring in the views. I don't care if it doesn't bring in the advertisers. These are some of the most important stories for humanity today. If we want this country to take action on climate change and take the issue seriously, we have to show these impacts.

Ida in the span of a couple of days, went from a tropical depression and in the time it crossed the Gulf of Mexico, which is not that big of a body of water compared to some other bodies out there, became a category four storm in the matter of what, 72, 96 ish hours. That is insane. California has been consistently burning. At one point, there were literally dozens of different wildfires throughout different parts of the state. The heat dome from earlier this summer came and went from the news media's attention. All of this is climate change and all of this is newsworthy. I don't care what the corporate big wigs think their advertisers think, corporate media needs to cover this so that people start taking it seriously.
