3:44Now PlayingAfter Paul Gosar's digital threats against AOC and President Biden, and following revelations about the threats against Republican lawmaker Fred Upton for voting for the infrastructure bill, CNN host John Avlon issued a warning to the American public: "The nuts are being normalized." This is a shocking, though very true, statement by Avlon, as the most extreme personalities within the Republican Party are the ones that appear to have taken over, and a lot of this is because of Donald Trump and his ability to empower the crazies. Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins explains what's happening.

CNN host John Avlon this week perfectly explained what is happening in today's Republican party. And he did a report shortly after Michigan Republican, Fred Upton, came out and revealed the voicemail of his life being threatened and of course at the same time we're dealing with Paul Gosar, and his idiotic, you know, disgusting video, the animated video of him killing AOC, Avlon came out and said, the problem with the Republican party is that the nuts are being normalized. Now that's just a small snippet of what he said. I'm going to read his entire statement, but it's that, that one sentence right there that explains everything about today's Republican party, but here's the whole thing. Any one of these insane incitements might be dismissed as crazy person says crazy thing, but taken together and reports from a single 24 hour period and you can see why we have a problem here. The nuts are being normalized to the point where it can seem like part of the scenery. The GOP needs to take responsibility.
There is no room for false equivalency here. The steady stream of incitement translates to things like a poll showing 30% of Republicans believe that violence might be needed to save the United States. The nuts are being normalized and yes, that is the problem. You know, your Fred Upton's, who are just your typical traditional conservatives, you know, horrible on policy, but not openly evil. They're being marginalized. And instead they're replaced with openly evil and disgusting vile human beings like Marjorie Taylor Greene, Paul Gosar, Louie Gohmert, Matt Gaetz, Lauren Boebert, Madison Cawthorn, Mo Brooks. These people are household names now and not because they're out there pushing good legislation, not because they're out there fighting for your rights. These people I just mentioned are household names because of how frigging crazy they are. That's not a good thing. That's not a good claim to fame. You don't want everybody in this country to know this lowly Georgia representative because she's nuts, but they do. And that's part of the problem.
These are the people that are out there in the media. These are the people that the media talks about because of how crazy they are. And it may be a double-edged sword. Maybe the more we talk about it, the more we attack these people, the more Republicans feel emboldened to protect them. You know, there's actually talk right now, whispers within the Republican party, according to reports, of stripping the 13 Republicans who voted for the infrastructure bill of their committee assignments. Paul Gosar, there's no discussion, at least that I've seen so far of stripping him anything, or if punishing him in any way for posting a video of him killing his colleague. But you voted for Biden's infrastructure bill, maybe you're going to lose your committee assignment. The nuts have been normalized and no, you know what, they haven't just been normalized. They have been given the keys to the Republican kingdom and they are now the ones in charge.
