Republican Senator Begs Joe Manchin To Officially Join Him On The Dark Side

Republicans are actively trying to turn Joe Manchin officially over to the Dark Side, with Republican Senator John Cornyn admitting that he texted Manchin to ask if he'd join the GOP. Mitch McConnell is also trying to act as a sympathetic character to Manchin, saying that it is stupid for Democrats to condemn him when he could easily switch parties. The truth is that it wouldn't change much of anything if Manchin switched parties, as Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins explains.

Joe Manchin is getting all kinds of love this week. But of course not from anybody on the left side of the aisle. No, the love is coming well one, from his corporate donors, but most importantly, from Republicans in the Senate. According to Republican Senator John Cornyn from Texas, he admitted that he has texted Joe Manchin this week, encouraging him to go ahead and join the dark side, officially join the Republican party. You know, why not? You're already voting like a Republican anyway, you're obstructing like a Republican. Why not just make it official, Joe? John Cornyn suggests in his text messages. But it's not just Cornyn. Manchin's also finding support from the upper echelon of the Republican party in the form of Mitch McConnell. Mitch McConnell said this week, let me find it here. Hang on just a second.

But Mitch McConnell goes on TV and, and doesn't quite necessarily defend Joe Manchin, but attacks the Democrats in a way to show Joe Manchin that, oh, look what they're, they're so mean. We're gonna love you. Here it is. It would not surprise you to know that I've suggested for years that it would be a great idea representing a deep red state like West Virginia, for him to come over to our side. I don't think that's going to happen. And then when McConnell was asked about the Democrats being mad about Joe Manchin, he said, I think that was not smart. This is a 50 50 Senate. He was shocked at the vitriol and basically seemed to me that they were calling Senator Manchin a liar. So he's trying to be like, Joe, look, look how horrible they're treating you. That's, that's so bad and I mean, it's a 50 50 Senate, you know, if, if you were to get mad enough at them and, and come on over to our side, we're looking at a 51 49 Senate. Right?

Oh, then suddenly, oh, things we could do, Mitch McConnell thinks if he gets put back in that leadership position. Well, to be honest, Mitch McConnell's right. He could do a lot and by a lot, I mean obstruct a lot. He, he wouldn't actually do anything. He would just obstruct everything. And of course, Republicans would take back over the committees in the Senate. But I ask you, why not? Why not kick Joe Manchin out for good? Why not go ahead and make it official? Yes, you lose the Senate for at least one year. You're not gonna get anything done with Manchin anyway. It's not going to happen. Honestly, I feel at this point, you would have better luck trying to reach out to Mitt Romney in getting him to vote along with you and we all know that ain't gonna happen either. But let him take it. Let him go over to the Republican party. Let them have their wish.

The elections are coming up in next November, Republicans defend 20 seats to the Democrats 14. It's gonna be harder for Republicans to retain all 20 seats and win extra. So let them take that shot. Let them take the blame for the inaction coming out of the Senate over the next year. Honestly, I feel like that's a win in for the Democrats. You lose the Senate for a year, but you increase your chances of winning it back with bigger numbers in just 12 short months. So why not take that gamble? Why not take the risk? It may not pan out that way. There's no guarantees in politics. But I think we can all pretty much agree that because of Manchin, nothing will get done over the next 12 months anyway.
