Republican Attorney General Fires Lawyer Serving As Top Investigator For January 6th Commission

Virginia's new Republican attorney general has decided to fire one of the lead councils for the University of Virginia, leaving many people in the state wondering what in the hell is going on. But when you look at this story, it's actually a lot more clear about what is actually taking to place here, because you see this lead attorney for the University of Virginia is currently on leave because he is serving as one of the top investigators for the January 6th select committee. Overseeing a team of investigators, looking into all of this stuff the committee's been looking into. So new Republican attorney general in Virginia said, I'm gonna kick you out of your, your private job. The one that you've held since 2018, I have decided I no longer need your services and I'm going to replace you with my little handpicked individual. And of course the attorney General's office came out and says, hold your horses folks.

This is not a partisan firing. Has nothing to do with his involvement with the January 6th committee. We've just been reviewing all of his decisions over the last few years and decided we don't like him. We want somebody, they say, who's gonna act on the rule of law, not on the philosophy of the University. Let me read you some of the credentials of this individual and you tell me if you think this person was fired for partisan reasons. This is from the New York Times. The attorney whose name is Timothy Heaphy. Mr. Heaphy, a Democrat, who has made political donations to Hillary Clinton and Joseph R. Biden Jr., had been the top lawyer at the University of Virginia since 2018. He served as a United States attorney in Virginia during the Obama administration and is married to the daughter of Eric Shinseski, Shinseki, the retired chief of staff of the army who served as president Barack Obama's secretary of veterans affairs.

In 2017, on behalf of the city of Charlottesville, he completed a highly critical report of how the police handled the white nationalist rally that turned violent and led to the death of one woman and injured dozens. That woman, by the way, was Heather Heyer. That was that unite the right tiki torch rally and he was highly critical of how the police handled that. So all of these things working against him, sure. This lawyer, huge Democrat guy, giving money to Hillary, money to Biden, appointed by Barack Obama, married to the daughter of the former secretary of veterans affairs, hugely politically connected. None of which are criteria showing that he wasn't able to fulfill the duties and obligations of his job as the top lawyer for the University of Virginia. And what's even funnier is after his office repeatedly in multiple different statements said, no, this has nothing to do with politics, later on issued a statement saying that, by the way, the individual at the top law post at the University of Virginia and all other public, public colleges in Virginia, yeah.

They serve at the leisure of the attorney general and of course it's, it's not unusual for them to come into office and clean house and replace them with individuals who more philosophically, they say, align with the views of that attorney general. So after denying multiple times that this was in fact, a partisan firing, you came out and admitted that, oh, by the way, yeah, this is totally partisan. We typically do these kinds of things because we want people who align with our philosophy. No matter which way you slice it, this man did not deserve to be fired. But of course, given his political connections, I don't think he has anything to worry about.
