A Trump-backed primary challenger in North Carolina is already going down in flames, long before the voting has even started. The primary race, which is being watched closely after incumbent Senator Richard Burr announced his retirement, shocked Republicans when Trump gave his endorsement to Ted Budd recently. And, as usual, the endorsement actually caused Budd's poll numbers and fundraising to take such a massive hit that he's likely done for in this race. Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins explains why this was completely predictable to anyone paying attention.

Another one of Donald Trump's wholeheartedly endorsed candidates is currently going down in flames in the state of North Carolina. So here's what's happening in North Carolina for those paying attention and yes, this is a very important race with national implications. Republican Senator Richard Burr announced earlier this year, he was retiring. So that's actually a big loss for the Republicans, especially since they have to defend more seats than the Democrats. Now they got an open seat in a state that's really, really purple right now, could go either way. So Donald Trump, once you started getting all these Republicans throwing their hat into the ring, he said, I'm gonna throw my hat into the ring behind Republican representative Ted Budd, who is running in the Republican primary for that open Senate seat. And as expected, as predicted, as soon as Donald Trump put his support, gave him his, what is it, total and complete endorsement.

Budd started dropping in the polls and his fundraising numbers went to because that's what happens when Donald Trump endorses somebody. Now I know recently in the Texas election, Donald Trump had a couple people he liked and endorsed that did well, right? They won, which does happen sometimes for Trump, but not all the time. In fact, not even most of the time. As I have repeatedly said, and I'm gonna keep saying it probably all throughout the year because I love talking about this, when Donald Trump endorses the candidate, their chances of winning that race final, firmly drop below 50%, even if they were above 50% prior to the endorsement, the endorsement typically drops them below 50%. Furthermore, even if they see an increase in fundraising numbers from the endorsement, which typically doesn't even happen, but if they do, their opponent sees an even larger increase in their fundraising numbers, whether it's an a primary and the other Republicans are getting more money, or if it's, if it's in a general, excuse me.

The Democratic opponent will start raising more money. Donald Trump's endorsement is a kiss of death and Ted Budd in North Carolina is learning that the hard way right now. So here's what's happening. Budd has fallen five points since January. The most recent poll has his one appoint, opponent, excuse me, former governor Pat McCrory at 35%, Budd's at 24% and then other candidates are at 17% or less. So you got an 11 point gap there and you've fallen five since Donald Trump threw his hat behind you. So things aren't looking good for little old Budd and Donald Trump's not happy about that. Recent reports have said that Donald Trump is desperately trying to figure out a way to take McCrory down, but he just can't figure out how to do it. And he also doesn't seem to realize that the reason McCrory is actually doing so well right now is because Donald Trump endorsed his opponent and tainted the race for Ted Budd.
