Late last week, Fox News host Sean Hannity brought on Donald Trump (via telephone) to let him attempt to rehab his image and walk back his comments where he praised Vladimir Putin as a "genius." Instead, Trump refused to take the lead that Hannity was giving him, and instead danced around the issue and tried to say that this wouldn't have happened if he were still in charge. Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins explains what happened.

Late last week, Sean Hannity decided to give Donald Trump the opportunity of a lifetime to basically redo the damage he had done to himself by praising Vladimir Putin as a genius for invading Ukraine and as expected, Donald Trump completely faceplanted and didn't really understand what, what Hannity, I guess, was trying to get him to say. So take a look at this clip of Hannity throwing the ultimate softball to Trump and Trump whiffing completely. Here it is.
You came under some fire when you said that Vladimir Putin's very smart. I think I know you a little bit better than most people in the media and, uh, I think you also recognize he's evil. Do you not?
Well, I was referring to the fact that he said, this is an independent nation, talking about Ukraine. And I said, that's some said, this is before there was an attack, attack. He's calling it an independent nation. Now a lot of things are changing when you look, this doesn't seem to be the same Putin that I was dealing with, but I will tell you he wouldn't have changed. If I were dealing with him, he wouldn't have changed. You know, I supplied and I know, uh, Biden is trying to take credit and they're all trying to take credit about many of the things, the incredible things that we did in the Trump administration. But we supplied the, uh, anti tank busters. They called Javelins and without them, you wouldn't have, you wouldn't have anything like what's happening. They're knocking out the tanks one after another, after another and.
All right, for real, Hannity just lobs it up there. Like here it is, a little floater, come on, dude. All you gotta do is hit it. And Trump just, whew, oh, missed, absolutely missed. But let's be real for a minute. Like even if Trump had gone with Hannity's plan, like, could you, could you just say he's evil? Just say he's evil. Like, what does that, what does that even do, right? I mean, who exactly are you pandering to at this point, Hannity? Like, just say he's evil. Oh good. Then we win. No. Like that, that's stupid. Evil is a word that obviously gets thrown around a lot. Hell, I throw it around a lot, but it has to have meaning behind it. You can't just say yeah, sure, they're evil. You gotta be able to explain why and Trump wouldn't be able to follow up on that, Sean. So that's where your little plan would've immediately fallen apart even if Donald Trump had gone along with it, because he doesn't disagree with what Putin is doing and that's the problem.
Not that he won't say that he's evil, but that his statement about him being a genius shows that he approves a of what Putin is doing in Ukraine. He went in there and just said, hey, guess what? Um, these areas, they belong to us now. Genius, Trump said that was. So he approved of the actions. So saying he's evil for doing it, but hey, it's a smart idea. That means nothing, Sean. And as for Donald Trump, of course, he's sitting there trying to take credit like, oh, the only reason Ukraine is able to even defend themselves is because of what I did as the president. Right? I am, I am the ultimate guy. I'm the guy who made this happen. Let's conveniently forget about all the money I withheld from them, that I got impeached for doing, right? Because nobody wants to remember all of that part of the horrible things Donald Trump did to Ukraine.
