Experts Say Chances Of Criminal Indictment For Donald Trump Have Gone Way Up

Many former federal prosecutors, including some who worked on the impeachment of former President Bill Clinton, say that recent court filings from the January 6th Committee, along with forward momentum from the Justice Department, have significantly increased the chances of Donald Trump being indicted. While we shouldn't start popping the champagne corks just yet, the investigations do appear to be moving in that direction, as Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins explains.

According to many former prosecutors here in the United States, the chances of Donald Trump being indicted for quite possibly a lot of different crimes that may have taken place on and before January 6th has risen in recent weeks. Now don't pop the champagne corks just yet, folks. Right? We have seen reports like this before, and I'm gonna get into the story in just a moment, but I want to temper everybody's expectations first. Okay. This is not saying that an indictment is right down that pipeline for Donald Trump or that, oh, he's gonna spend the rest of his life in jail. We have seen this man literally get away with everything far. So I think the chances of him getting away with all of this, I wouldn't say a hundred percent, but it's pretty darn close to a hundred percent. Two weeks ago, I'd had said it was at a hundred percent. Now, maybe it's like 98% and I think that's what some of these experts are trying to tell us too.

So let me read to couple of these quotes. This is from Paul Pelletier, former acting chief of DOJs fraud section, according to what he told the Guardian. The compelling evidence of criminal activity by Trump revealed by the committee in its recent 61 page court filing should spur DOJ to act expeditiously. Given the gravity of the revolution, the revelations, the department should consider a strike-force or even special counsel, to coalesce sufficient resources to focus on these criminal attacks that strike at the heart of our democracy. There's no time to waste now that the House committee has provided the clearest view yet into how Trump and his campaign, apparently schemed to upend our democracy. Then of course you have Dennis Aftergut, who is a former federal prosecutor who says, the Justice Department and the House Select Committee investigating the Capitol siege have turned up the heat on Trump's inner circle that could ensnare Trump himself.

And Aftergut goes on to add, the committee's sworn evidence based allegation that former president Trump conspired to overturn the election, sends an unmistakable message. The train heading toward a criminal referral to the DOJ is leaving the station. Now I'd love to think that the train was leaving the station and granted, these people know far more about criminal prosecutions, about the inner workings of the DOJ and even the select committee than I do. But I'm tempering my expectations and again, I encourage everybody to do the same. I would love to see that train rolling outta the station, right? We all wanna see the train, but I don't think the train's even boarded yet. That's just, that's, that's my personal opinion, right? I have hope that the train will leave the station and it's headed to prison-ville with Donald Trump on board, but we're not there yet. But there's more, right? There's, there's more reason for hope here.
