Bush this week tried to condemn the "brutal invasion" of Ukraine, but slipped up and accidentally said "Iraq." This wasn't what he wanted to say, but it lit up the internet. By now I'm sure most of you have seen that George W. Bush clip from his presidential library that came out this past Monday. But, uh, I've waited a little bit obviously to talk about it because I kind of wanted to really get my thoughts straight. But just in case, if you haven't seen the clip here is George W. Bush casually, but accidentally admitting to war crimes in Iraq. Take a look

Now obviously weird thing, right? Ukraine sounds nothing like Iraq. They don't even start with the same vowel and I'll give more to that in a moment. But of course everybody across social media for days and days, and days have said, this is basically one of the greatest Freudian slips we have ever gotten in political history. And they're probably right about that. But here's what it told me, this man, George W. Bush. And of course, by the way, before I even get into that, I have to say this. He did try to laugh it off because after that clip, he kind of said like, uh, Iraq too. Anyway, and then everybody laughed and he goes, I'm 75, you know, like, Hey, I'm old. I forget. Um, so here's he, the typical George W. Bush thing that we all grew to hate during his administration. So anyway, Iraq was on his brain.

Now think about that for a moment. Iraq was on his brain when he's talking about an illegal invasion in another country, the first thing that popped into his head that caused him to have that Freudian slip was Iraq. Like I'm talking about one country invading a sovereign country for no discernible reason. You know, all the reasons we've gotten are total lies. And the first thing that pops into that man's head is to say Iraq instead of Ukraine, it's not just a Freudian slip folks. To me, it's indicative of somebody with a guilty conscience during this speech, Iraq should not, and would not have otherwise been on his brain.

This is a kind of signal to me, and I'm not trying to excuse him at all. He's a dirty scumbag, but it shows me that he hasn't stopped thinking about this. It shows me that he does to a degree, understand that what he did, what his administration did was wrong and that it was a bad decision. Maybe now, are we ever gonna get an apology from him? Probably not. If we do, it'll probably be one of those deathbed apologies like, oh, I'm so sorry. It was the wrong thing. That's what we'll get. Maybe if we get anything at all and it's never gonna be an excuse, there is no excuse for what this man did. I don't care if the decision was made by Dick Channey. I don't care if it was made by Donald Rumsfeld or Paul Wolfowitz. He was the guy in charge. All of it rested his feet. This will hang around him for eternity. And that's why I love this story because clearly he's still thinking about it. Clearly it troubles him good live with that guilt forever. That is what I wanna see. And that is my big takeaway from it. If this man is living in guilt every day for the rest of his life, as he clearly has been every day since he left office, then good.
