A Republican Congress who has been endorsed by the NRA named Chris Jacobs has apparently seen one mass shooting too many, and he's now saying that he is open to gun control measures, including renewing the assault weapons ban. This is a great step forward, even if there are still a lot more steps that need to be taken. But we need to count our victories, as Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins explains.

The dam might not be about to break, but cracks are starting to appear in its surface. And we have a lot more work to do folks, but something is in fact different after the school shooting last week, we're starting to see a bit of a change in some formerly staunch pro gun conservatives, including a Republican Congressman who was endorsed, endorsed, excuse me, by the NRA, by the name of Chris Jacobs. After last Tuesday shooting, Mr. Jacobs has now come out and said that he has changed his mind on gun control and that now he would support a ban on assault weapons. He would support raising the age to buy a gun in this country from 18 to 21 supports expanding background checks, basically all of the common sense gun control measures that people have been pushing for for decades. Now, Mr. Jacobs, who had been against them in the past now says that he has seen far too many killings.

There have been far too many mass shootings for him. He has changed, which I have to admit is absolutely remarkable. And sure. It's one guy. And I think there may be one or two other people on the Republican side. Who've also come out and said this, but folks, every crack in that dam makes a difference. Every crack weakens it. We're not even close to making it crumble down yet. We're not, but we're getting there. That is a positive development. That is a good thing that is happening right now in this country. And to a degree, it also proves me wrong. I've long said that there's no amount of dead kids, dead grandparents, dead parents, dead, anybody that is going to make these Republicans change their minds about common sense gun control. I was apparently at least in this one instance, wrong, apparently there is a number.

Apparently there is enough dead kids for at least one Republican Chris Jacobs. So good for you, Chris Jacobs. I wish you would've come to this conclusion sooner, but I'm not about to try to make an enemy out of somebody who finally has come around to see the light. Sometimes it has to happen, right? Sometimes these people have to see just enough carnage cuz by the way, this guy is the in Buffalo, New York. So yeah. Makes sense. Sometimes it does, unfortunately have to hit a little too close to home. Sometimes these people have to see the carnage with their own eyes in order to be able to take off their blinders that the NRA likes to put on these members of Congress. And that is what has happened here with Mr. Jacobs. So thank you Mr. Jacobs. I do appreciate it. I hope you can convince other Republicans in the

House to do what you have done. I hope you can convince other people across the country that this is what is needed. Not that we need much convincing, right? More than 80% of the public approves of the things that you now say that you're for the public has always been on the side of common sense. Gun control NRA members have always been on the side, overwhelming majorities of them wanting common sense. Gun control measures. The only people holding us up. The only place where there is actually debate about this is in legislatures, either the federal or the state level. That is where the opposition lies out here in the general public. We're all pretty much in agreement that we want these things to happen. Thanks to Mr. Jacobs. We just gained another ally in Congress.
