Democrats Pessimistic About January 6th Hearings Impacting Midterm Elections

According to a new report, Democrats in the House don't believe that the public January 6th hearings are going to move voters very much ahead of the midterms, but they aren't slowing down either way. And that's a good thing. If they are doing this without any expectation of influencing elections then it proves that they actually care about the country - not just scoring political points. So the first primetime televised hearing of the January 6th committee was last night. It was a great hearing. Honestly, I loved what I saw from that. But anyway, according to a report from Politico that dropped yesterday prior to that televised hearing, Democrats in Congress are pessimistic about these televised hearings actually moving the needle at all ahead of the midterms. They don't think that this is really going to, you know, stop the Republicans, slow their momentum, or even allow the Democrats to keep the House of Representatives, which for the record is a good thing. If the Democrats in Congress, the people doing these hearings, if they in their minds know, listen, this isn't gonna change what's gonna happen in November. Good. That shows us that they understand this job, this committee, this report, this information, this evidence is far more important than an election.

So in reality, this Politico report that basically tried to say like, oh, well, here's the headline. Just let me read this. Dems know the January 6th hearings won't help in November. They're leaning in anyway. It makes it sound like, oh, why are you even doing this if you know it's not gonna help you? Because it's good for the country is why. And that almost lends even more legitimacy to these hearings, right? Republicans have been claiming from day one that this is all a political stunt. They're just trying to hurt Republicans and help Democrats. And behind the scenes, Democrats are telling each other, they're telling sources, they're telling staffers, this isn't gonna do anything for us, but we're gonna do it anyway because the country needs to know. That's powerful. You know, it, we have to kind of take with a grain of salt. Maybe they're just like, oh no, this totally isn't gonna help us. We, ah, we're still gonna get our butts kicked. Maybe, maybe not. And I will say when I first came across this report yesterday from Politico, I agreed with it. I thought, for sure, like, yeah, this probably isn't gonna move the needle on the midterms. But then I actually watched the hearing.

I saw the reactions on social media from people who had not quite been as involved in politics. People who actually hadn't even seen the footage. And I actually do think to a degree it is going to move the needle. I think what we saw last night absolutely woke some people up. Maybe not enough to swing any races, but maybe, we won't know. We won't know until polling data starts to come out. I mean, after all we're, we're looking at a time right now when one third of the American public, according to the latest polls, says that Donald Trump bears no responsibility for what happened on January 6th. He bears no responsibility. The committee sure as hell painted a different picture last night. And because this thing was plastered all across the media, including, you know, your ABC's, NBC's and CBS's, I, I think it absolutely is going to affect people. I absolutely think it's going to impact their decision making come November. We'll just have to wait and see how big of an impact it's going to have. But I think to dismiss this thing as, oh, it's not gonna do anything, 24 hours ago I'd agreed with you. But now not so much because that was a good.
