Facebook's parent company Meta has asked their board to take another look at their COVID-19 policies to see if it is time to lift the ban on COVID misinformation being posted on their platform. They claim that the pandemic has "evolved," which is true, but that doesn't mean that the misinformation and outright lies about what's happening have gone away. Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins explains why this is an idiotic move by the company.

MEA, the parent company of Facebook has asked their independent oversight board to look into whether or not they should stop banning. COVID 19 misinformation from Facebook. They say that quote, the pandemic has evolved. So maybe we don't need to ban all this stuff. Maybe we don't need to ban the vaccine misinformation. Maybe instead we just slap some warning labels on it and we call it a day. We let it live there. But you know, we'll put a little label on it saying, Hey, maybe this isn't true. You decide oversight board because you know, the pandemic has evolved. Yeah. It's evolved. And not in a good way, not in a way that would say, ah, we're okay with misinformation now, like this is possibly one of the dumbest things I could ever imagine. Meta trying to do, like maybe we should allow misinformation. Like what in the world makes you think that misinformation at any point pandemic or not is a smart decision.
I mean, forget for a moment that COVID cases are spiking again, forget for a moment that many areas of the country are once again debating whether or not to reinstitute mask mandates, even if the pandemic had officially ended and there were no more COVID cases anywhere in the world, if the virus magically disappeared, allowing misinformation regarding COVID to be on your platform is still an incredibly stupid idea, right? Like I don't even understand that. Like, Hey, not as many people are dying anymore, so maybe it's okay. Maybe the people can have a little misinformation as a treat. What the hell, what kind of brain dead morons are sitting there on the board of meta saying, you know what? We haven't seen enough lies on our platform recently. Maybe let's loosen the rules a little bit and let people just share whatever wacky conspiracy theories they have today.
I, I just, I can't even imagine. I cannot fathom the lack of brain power that went into asking this oversight board to look into this issue. Now, again, the oversight board is gonna look at it. They they're gonna make their decision. They're gonna make their recommendations basically. And then meta can choose to listen to them or they could choose to not listen to them. Cuz you see this oversight board is an independent group that is funded by meta, but they're not legally required to do whatever it is. This oversight board tells them as far as I know. So the oversight board could come back, smack 'em on the back of the head and say, you guys are morons. Don't let misinformation on your site. And the idiots at meta could still turn around and say, eh, but we're gonna do it anyway. We're still a private company and we
Can do, do whatever we want. So gear up folks, not only is the pandemic still out there, not only are people still dying, we're dealing with long COVID. We're starting to learn more about the long term effects of having COVID the BA five variant to quote my very own medical doctor is a. I had it. Wasn't pleasant, plenty of other people. I know that had gone the whole pandemic without getting COVID also got it. Protect yourselves, not just your body, not just your health, but your brains from the possible onslaught of misinformation that meta thinks might be a good idea to allow back on Facebook.
