Trump Doesn't Want To Pay For Special Master He Demanded

Pending an appeal by the DOJ, Donald Trump has won his battle to have a special master go through the documents seized from Mar-a-Lago. But, as usual, Donald Trump doesn't want to be the one to have to pay, so he is trying to get the DOJ to cough up at least half of the money needed to pay whoever takes the role. The courts aren't exactly a fan of this idea, saying that since this is what Trump wants, Trump should have to pay the full price. Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins discusses this.

So Donald Trump, of course, as we know, got his wish to get a special master on Friday, both Trump's side and the DOJ, each submitted two names of individuals that they would like to see acting as the special master. Uh, the DOJ of course has appealed, uh, judge Cannon's ruling giving them the special master. So we kind of have to wait to see what happens on appeal of that. But as it stands right now, Donald Trump is gonna get his special master pending the appeal. And of course, even though Trump is the one who demanded it, his legal team has approached the DOJ and they've said, all right, listen, guys, we're gonna have to have a special master here. So it's only fair. It's only fair that we split the cost of this, you know, because it's not just a special master, right? They're gonna have to have an office.

They're gonna have to have a staff. They're gonna have to make copies. They're gonna need some coffee every now and then. So I think we ought to just split it 50, 50, the cost of this guy that we want. And you don't. And the DOJ of course has said, no, why, why, why would we do that? This is something you requested something that you wanted for your documents. So Donald can pay it himself. We're we are not going to pay any of that. The DOJ has said in their court filing. Now, of course, these are in court filings, right? That was the plan that Donald Trump's lawyer submitted. They said, well, we don't wanna foot the whole bill for this thing that we're demanding happen. So the DOJ should pay half the DOJ says, yeah, basically go F yourself. We're definitely not gonna pay that.

So we're gonna have to wait and see what the courts say, but it is of course ridiculous, right? It is absolutely 100% ridiculous. Donald Trump throws a massive legal temper tantrum gets his way and then doesn't wanna pay for his way. Like I demand that we do this thing. All right, we're gonna do this thing. So, uh, give us the money for it. Wait, what? No, I'm not gonna give you money for it. Why would I give you money for this thing that I'm making you do? It's absolutely idiotic. If Donald Trump was very serious about wanting a special master, they wouldn't have even approached the DOJ about having to pay half of it. Trump would've said, Hey guys, listen, you know what? This one's on me. I can afford it. I have the money. I'll go ahead and pay for the special master. And I'll send them donuts every week. If I have to, I don't care. I want this I'll pay for it. Let's not get into more legal fights that are gonna actually end up costing me more money than the special master would probably cost in general because every time Donald Trump's lawyers go to court and file these requests like, Hey, give us half the money. Hey, we need this. Hey, we need that. Every time they do this, that costs Donald Trump. A lot of money.

A assuming of course, that he's actually paying these lawyers because we know that's been an issue in the past with his legal teams. He doesn't like to pay for anything. So we'll see what happens, but no, the DOJ, which doesn't, by the way, have its own money. That's taxpayer money. That's our money. Donald Trump wants you to foot the bill for his special master. And there is no universe whatsoever where that is fair. You demanded the thing you and you alone should have to pay for it.
