4:26Now PlayingConservative Daily Beast writer Matt Lewis believes he knows why, at least for now, Republicans aren't showing much love for Donald Trump's third presidential run. According to Lewis, people are bored with Trump because he is "old news," and he isn't able to excite anyone that way that he used to. Trump has been dying for media attention that hasn't materialized in a good way, and his lackluster campaign isn't bringing in anyone new. Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins discusses this.

So far, Donald Trump has been running for president now for almost two full months. He has not done a single event. He has not held a single rally. His poll numbers continue to tank. And conservative Daily Beast columnist Matt Lewis thinks he knows why Donald Trump's campaign has gotten off to such a horrible start during a recent appearance on Ms. N B C. Again, conservative daily beast commentator, Matt Lewis said this about where Donald Trump stands in the eyes of the public today. This has been a long time coming, and I went back and looked at Donald Trump's year. 2022 was a horrible year, not just because of the midterms. It started off with a rally in Arizona that was horrible, that didn't live up to expectations. He seemed off of his game. Then he praised Vladimir Putin's brilliance, you know, genius for going into Ukraine. We did see a little bit of the old magic with the Mar-a-Lago raid.
I, I think that's the best thing that happened to Donald Trump, where it created a rally around the flag effect, but it was short-lived. And so I think the difference is not only has this been a long time coming, but I'm not really s uh, I'm not really suggesting anything magical. I, I'm not suggesting Republicans are going to come to their senses. What I am suggesting is human nature. I think people have finally gotten bored with him. I think we have short attention spans, and I think he's gotten older and I, he's been being supplanted. He's being supplanted by someone on the right. Ron DeSantis. I think that's the question, does DeSantis run? But I also think Donald Trump is being supplanted in the, you know, what I would call the attention economy. It's not just Ron DeSantis in the political realm. It's also people like Elon Musk who I think are taking up, sucking up the Twitter oxygen that Donald Trump used to receive.
Maybe he rebounds, but for the first time, I think he's starting to look old. And not just old in age, but old news now. I know that was a really long quote. Typically, I don't like to read that much of a quote, but I had to because I think it's very poignant and I think it also kind of reflects what I've been saying about Donald Trump for several years now. You know, regular viewers, I'm sure understand and have heard me say many times that Donald Trump, when he first burst on at the political stage was like the Mac of the 1990s, right? Weird kinda one hit wonder. The first time you heard it, you're like, you know what? This is kind of catchy. It's weird. Like I wouldn't wanna be caught listening to it. But you know, it's kind of fun to bust it out at a party and everybody's like, Hey, we're gonna do the Mac. And then after a couple months, it got to the point where you're like, if I hear that song one more time, I'm going to shove needles in my ears. So I never hear anything ever again. That's how much I hate this song. That's what Donald Trump is. He was that one hit wonder song that the radio just wouldn't stop playing. The media wouldn't keep him off our TV screens. And maybe now looking back at
It, it maybe that's for the best. If they hadn't done that, we wouldn't have gotten sick of him. But he loves the spotlight, so he made sure that they stayed focused on him. And by doing that, people got bored. When Donald Trump goes out there and he talks to crowds, not that he's done that in quite a while, he's saying the same thing over and over again.
