3:46Now PlayingRepublican Texas governor Greg Abbott begged for more money from the federal government for the southern border this week, saying that the state is DESPERATE for more funding. Perhaps Abbott should have thought about that before he wasted $20 MILLION shipping migrants across the country for his political stunts. He has what he needs, he just needs to stop with the political grandstanding (which he never will.) Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins discusses this.

So President Joe Biden recently went down to the southern border to look at the, uh, anarchy that is taking place with migrants just flocking over that border every second of every day, right? And that's what Republicans tell us is happening. They're like 2 million people came across the border last year almost. Okay? So Greg Abbott, governor of Texas now in his third term, does an interview after Biden's visit and is asked, Hey, are you gonna ask the federal government for more money to help secure the border down here? To which Greg Abbott replied 100%. Texas desperately needs more money. I know the Republicans of the US House have committed to providing Texas the money that we need. We just finished over the past two years, spending 4 billion of Texas taxpayer dollars for Texas to fill the gap calls by the Biden administration, $4 billion. Now, the problem with that number of course is that you didn't actually spend 4 billion securing your southern border. What you did was you spent that money on political stunts. You spent that money sending National Guard members down there who have reportedly been so bored that they don't know what to do with themselves, and why are they bored? Well, because the border crisis, as Republicans call it, is not as bad as it seems. Even the people that live in some of the border towns that Republicans have said are just seeing influxes of migrants. Those people have gone on record saying, I don't see them anywhere. Like that's just not true.
Most of the people who come across the border do get apprehended, and sure, we may have had well over a million of them last year. We have also seen record deportations and detentions under the Biden administration. It's basically the exact same thing that was happening during the Trump administration. And when we're talking about money here, cuz Greg Abbott says, we desperately need money. You spent 20 million last year alone rounding up these migrants and shipping 'em to other parts of the country, including to the very front of Kamala Harris's home in freezing temperatures on Christmas Eve. You spent 20, you wasted 20 million on that political stunt. I don't think the federal government ought to give you another dime. That's your state, right? You ran on fixing the problem and here you are not fixing the problem for your constituents, I'd say they got duped. You have money, you've got lots of industry in your state that makes billions of dollars
A year. You could just tax them and get the money you need, right? You could do that, the fossil fuel industry, but you won't. There's other ways to get that money that you need, but even if you did, you'd only wasted on more political stunts trying to gain more political capital for whatever the hell reason you think you need it, you deserve nothing and even nothing is probably more than you should get.
