Democratic Senator Diane Feinstein has still not been able to return to the United States Senate. She has now missed 60 out of 83 votes this year, 2023 because she has been out since March, since the beginning of March. Uh, she had shingles, she went to the hospital, spent a few days there and she has since then been recuperating in her home back in California. She is still not well enough to go back to the Senate and because of that, because her vote is needed cuz she's on the committee, the Democrats have not had the votes necessary to move. President Biden's judicial nominees forward out of committee to the floor for a vote. So her absence is hurting the Biden administration, it's hurting the judicial system, it's hurting the Democratic party. And the calls for her to resign have now reached a fevered pitch.

She needs to resign. I mean, she is 89 years old. I get it. I don't wanna be ageist. I don't wanna say that that's why she has to resign, but she has already said she's retiring at the end of her term. She clearly is having health issues that she needs to address. That is not her fault, but for the good of the party, she needs to resign. And here's why. It doesn't have anything to do with her age. It doesn't have anything to do with her health. It doesn't have anything to do with her holding up Biden's judicial nominees. She should resign for the good of the Democratic Party because here's what happens. If she resigns Gavin Newso, democratic Governor of California gets to appoint her replacement, that replacement will then serve out the remainder of that term. And then we go to the election in 2024. Right now we have multiple Democrats that have announced that they're running for Feinstein's seat, three of them in the House of Representatives in order to run for that Senate seat in 2024. In a primary, they forfeit their current seat. So if Feinstein does not resign or retire, we will go into next year knowing that we are gonna lose two very amazing seats in that house, at least Katie Porter, Barbara Lee, and of course Adam Schiff is running for it too.

If Newsom appoints a replacement now due to her resignation, that person is pretty much guaranteed to win the

Election in 2024. We can avoid the messy primary that is going to cost to us Democratic seats in the house if Feinstein resigns now. Cuz again, whoever Newsom puts in that seat, because it would be one of the three people running and if that person is then in that seat, they serve out a year and a half, nobody's gonna challenge 'em in the primary. They're gonna be a lock at that point. So we can avoid it. And I know that kind of sucks to say like we're taking the the vote away from the people. I don't wanna lose Katie Porter in the house. I would love for Katie Porter to win that Senate seat. Unfortunately, I don't think she would then. I hate to say that. So then we just, we just lose Katie Porter, Barbara Lee. I'd be cool with her in the Senate. I wouldn't be cool with losing her from the house because Adam Schiff gets the seat. That's what worries me is Adam Schiff winning that primary. Then we lose Porter and Lee, that's, that's like the worst case scenario there. Newsom needs to talk to Feinstein.
