Florida Republicans Vote To Shield DeSantis' Travel Records After Public Demanded Answers

Florida governor Ron DeSantis has been traveling around the globe in recent weeks, and thanks to the Republican-controlled Florida legislature, we may never know who is paying for these trips. Florida Republicans voted this week to shield DeSantis' travel records (and the records of other high-ranking state officials) from the public, allegedly out of an abundance of caution due to security concerns. But the fact that this legislation popped up immediately after people started asking questions is highly suspicious, as Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins explains.

This week, the Republican controlled Florida State legislature passed legislation that is going to shield Florida authoritarian Governor Ron DeSantis travel records from the public, you know, because of safety issues is what they're telling us. Not only is it gonna shield DeSantis records, it's gonna shield the travel records of all of his family members. It'll shield the travel records of all of the members of his cabinet. It'll shield the travel records of the Chief Justice of the State Supreme Court. The other justices now like, screw you guys, we don't care. Um, it'll shield the records of the Republican leaders in the State House and state Senate, not the other members. Again, like, y'all don't matter. We just wanna shield our stuff. And they're doing it a hundred percent, 100% for safety reasons. Let me read you what Ron DeSantis said this week while talking about the legislation with the security situation. H how you do patterns of movements. If you're somebody that is targeted, which unfortunately I am, and I get a lot of threats, that could be something that could be helpful for people that may not want to do good things. So DeSantis is out there saying, listen, you gotta shield my travel records because I don't want to get killed. I get a lot of threats.

Okay? We get a lot of threats. I mean, everybody that does what I do, we get a lot of threats too. Um, the difference is are they credible or are they not? Because you seem to have no problem going out in public. I mean, you've been in public all over the country. I mean, just in the last couple weeks you've been in Texas, Japan, South Korea, Israel, England, Boston, New York, Florida, Iowa, and you're out there in public. So clearly you're actually not that afraid. You know, if, if there were credible threats against you, you wouldn't be showing your face in public all the time doing public book signings where any Yahoo off the street can walk in there. So I don't buy your bs. You know why else I don't buy your BS about this being about safety? Because Republicans only did this after the public in Florida and across the country, started raising questions about who the hell is paying for you to fly all the way around the world in your privately chartered jet. That's what the public was demanding answers to. So in response to that, the Republican legislature said, what if we just shield it so that it's not covered under Florida's open record laws? So instead of just answering the question of who is paying for these flights, because DeSantis office has said the taxpayers aren't paying for it, his campaign has not filed any disclosures showing that they're paying for it.
