Republican Governor Signs Bill To Protect Gun Makers After Recent Mass Shooting

Republican Governor Bill Lee of Tennessee quietly signed legislation this past Thursday that shields gun makers, sellers, and anyone in the chain of firearm distribution from any form of liability for massacres that occur with their weapons. This comes as the state is still reeling from a recent mass shooting where Lee actually called for common sense gun reforms after the tragedy - a thought that apparently only lasted a hot minute. Following the deadly mass shooting that occurred in Tennessee in March at the Covenant School Republican Governor Bill Lee stood up in front of the nation and said that we have to do something about the guns. And he announced at that time that he was in favor of enacting gun control measures in the state of Tennessee and possibly supporting them nationwide. I did a segment on it, sat right here and talked about how good it was to hear that coming from a Republican. I talked about maybe the dam is starting to break and even Republicans are saying Enough death is enough. I was wrong. I was wrong because apparently last Thursday, very quietly to no fanfare, they did not want this publicized one bit. But Tennessee's Republican governor, bill Lee last Thursday signed a piece of legislation that provides blanket immunity for gun makers, manufacturers and the sellers of guns and ammunition in the state of Tennessee. Meaning that if you produce a weapon or you sell a weapon to an individual and that individual then goes and uses that weapon to shoot up a school, you don't have to worry about being sued.

That's what Tennessee did in response to the mass shooting. They didn't, as Bill Lee told us he wanted to do enact gun control measures. They enacted liability control measures to protect the gun industry. That son of a conned us all. And I'm off because I fell for it. I actually believed it for a moment. I thought just maybe the dead bodies of those nine year old children woke that s o b up, but I was wrong. Instead, Republicans in the Tennessee legislature got together. The house had actually already passed the immunity bill prior to the mass shooting. Then the shooting happened. Then the Senate took up the bill while the funerals were taking place, and then they passed it and Lee signed it last week. So this is where we're at as a country. We're not gonna do anything to protect our children. We're not gonna do anything to protect the population, but by God, we are gonna protect those gun manufacturers because those are the lives that really matter, right? This is where we're at. I actually had hope. I had hope for a minute. I never have hope. I always feel like hope is stupid. Let optimism is kind of stupid. It shows that maybe you're a little disconnected from reality because things are always bad. And I had had hope based on what Bill Lee said. He has now robbed me of that hope. I am once again, back to thinking this is just who we are as a

Country. And these things will continue to happen because Republicans like Bill Lee continue to put the priorities, the safety, the financial security of the gun industry ahead of the lives of our own children.
