Republicans Keep Attacking Biden For Horrible Things That Happened Under Trump

There are plenty of valid reasons to criticize President Biden and some of the things that have happened while he's been President, but Republicans would much rather be angry about things that Trump did and blame them on Biden instead. Multiple Republicans this year, as recently as last week, have attacked President Biden for the COVID shutdowns that happened across the country, even though all of the so-called "shutdowns" had ended by the time Biden was sworn in. This isn't the first time Republicans have blamed Democrats for problems caused by Republicans, as Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins explains.

B c political analyst, Steve Benon had a wonderful piece this week on nbc news.com, where he talked about the fact that Republicans to this very day are still actually trying to blame Joe Biden for all the horrible things that happened during Donald Trump's administration. Leading that pack, as Ben and points out, is Marjorie Taylor Green, who recently said, uh, you did all of that during your communist covid shutdowns, don't, you don't do it again to the American people. Joe, um, president Biden was not the president during the lockdowns. He was not the president of the United States when we entered Covid. He was not president of the United States when different states across the country decided to implement their own different rules about how to handle the pandemic. Joe Biden is responsible for exactly zero pieces of that, mostly because he wasn't in office at the time.

But Marjorie Taylor Green is still out there pushing that phony narrative that somehow those lockdowns, which never really existed are Joe Biden's fault. God bless it, as she's not the only one. Benon continues. Representative Lauren Boberg of Colorado blamed the Democratic president for Covid related school closures in 2020, which again was a year that Biden spent on the campaign trail, not in the Oval Office. It also wasn't too long ago when former White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany also pointed to crime data from 2020 to blame Biden for the US murder rate. Apparently unaware that it was her former boss who was president at the time. So Biden's responsible for the Covid lockdowns before he was president. He's responsible for the murder rate from a year that he was not President. And then of course, you have representative Ronnie Jackson of Texas, for example, who recently blamed Biden for paying people to stay home in 2020, referring to a law that Donald Trump signed the year before Biden took office.

Oh, and Marbury Taylor Green of, of course, blamed Biden for a woman's, uh, two sons who died from an overdose in the year 2020 again before Biden was president. So they're these Republicans who all love Donald Trump. By the way. I think that's important to point out. They see the horrible things that Trump did, and they're like, well, we can't say Trump did it, but we have to hate these things, so let's just rearrange the calendars of our brains and pretend that Biden was president during that time. Yeah, that works out great. But Benon goes a step further because it's not just that Republicans are blaming Biden for all the horrible things that Trump did. This is actually a decades long Republican strategy to blame Democrats for bad things that Republican

Presidents did. Let me read this, the conservative penant for reassessing blame, reassigning blame is not new. Recalling a poll found that nearly a third of Louisiana Republicans, a third blamed Obama for the dreadful federal response to Hurricane Katrina. Of course, in reality, Katrina made landfall in August of 2005, and Obama was inaugurated in January of 2009, they also, according to polls, blamed Obama for the financial crash of 2007, 2008, even though he didn't come into office until 2009. So this is kind of how Republicans operate. Like, oh no, something horrible happened and we're in charge.
