Now that he's officially running for President, Ron DeSantis is giving the country a glimpse of how terrible things could be if he actually wins office. And, as is typical for Republicans seeking the presidency, DeSantis is promising to pack the Supreme Court with right wing hacks for the next "quarter century." If ever there was a call to action to expand the Supreme Court, this would be it, as Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins explains.

Now that Ron DeSantis is officially running for president, he is starting to talk like a presidential candidate. And one of the things he mentioned this week actually before he even made his official announcement, was that the next Republican who will get two terms in office, which of course means he's not talking about Donald Trump will likely have the opportunity, he says, to pack that Supreme Court and bump it up to a seven two conservative majority, a conservative majority that will rule, he says for the next quarter century here is in his own words, Ron DeSantis planning to pack the Supreme Court. I think if you look over the next two presidential terms, which of course is what he's meaning, like I will get two terms, there is a good chance that you could be called upon to seek replacements for justices Clarence Thomas and Justice Samuel Alito.

And the issue with that is you can't really do better than those two in terms of corruption. You're right, it is possible that in those eight years we have the opportunity to fortify Justices Alito and Thomas as well is actually, uh, make improvements with those others. And if you were able to do that, you would have a 72 conservative majority on the Supreme Court that would last a quarter century, a quarter century of solid Republican rule at the United States Supreme Court undoing every social advancement, every worker protection that we have in this country. That is exactly what conservatives like Ron DeSantis want. And that is exactly what Ron DeSantis is promising to do. And of course, he points out that both Elena Kagan and Justice Sotamayor, uh, they're getting up there in years. You know, Obama didn't exactly pick, uh, you know, the youngest possible people like Donald Trump did.

I mean, don't get me wrong, I think they're very good justices, but they were up there, they were a little older and Donald Trump decided I'm gonna pick young stupid people so that they can serve on that court for 50 years. So that's where we're at with that. But folks, make no mistake, this is Ron DeSantis signaling to that Republican base that I have a plan to pack the Supreme Court that plays well with the Republican base. I mean, the 2016 election was mostly about that United States Supreme Court. Let's not pretend that it wasn't, because let's not forget there was a vacant seat. There was a vacant seat. Scalia had died earlier that year. And we all remember Mitch McConnell. No, you can't do it in an election year. So then he of course, four years later did it in an election year because he is a massive hypocrite and we all knew that was gonna happen. But anyway, Ron DeSantis is now trying to shift the conversation involving the 2024 election,

Trying to make it about the Supreme Court because he thinks that's gonna drum up more support for him in his presidential campaign. Uh, we'll see what happens. Uh, talking about the Supreme Court does in fact ignite conservatives, however that usefulness may have run its course because last year the whole reason Republicans talk about the Supreme Court was cuz they wanted to overturn Roe versus Wade. Well now they've done it and now even conservative women are off about it. S
