4:24Now PlayingIt is amazing how quickly the tables can turn. Just one year ago, Republicans were whining and crying and trying to make a campaign issue out of the calls to "defund the police" from activists on the Left. But today, those same Republicans in Congress are now promising to cut funding for the country's top law enforcement agency - The Department of Justice - as revenge for indicting Donald Trump. Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins explains what's happening.

Last year prior to the 2022 midterms, we saw Republicans across the country running ads talking about the fact they called it that Democrats want to quote defund the police. Now, defund the police was of course a slogan used by many activists on the left to bring attention to the fact that we need to take money away from murderous police officers here in the United States and instead inject it into mental health services, into other first responders who don't show up to a situation and immediately pull out a gun and start shooting people. That's what that meant. But of course, the right took it and then spun it into the leftist soft on crime. They want criminals to go, they want to defund the police. And the Democrats didn't really have an answer for that. Well, guess what, Democrats, now you do. Now you have the ultimate talking point to flip on the Republicans by calling out the fact that Republicans are now saying that we have to defund the police following Donald Trump's second indictment.
In fact, actually before Donald Trump's second indictment, Republicans in the House and Senate were already threatening to cut the funding of the FBI and the entire Department of Justice. If Donald Trump got indicted by Jack Smith, the special prosecutor, well, Jack Smith, the special prosecutor, has now in fact indicted Donald Trump for a second time, which means Republicans will likely be moving forward with their efforts to strip the doj, which includes the F B I of funding. Now, the Department of Justice is of course the top law enforcement agency here in the United States. So they're cops, right? They're police and Republicans are saying we're going to defund them. Do you see where I'm going with this talking point, Democrats, do you see what you need to be putting in ads running across the country right now, not a year from now? Not wait until the primaries today, put it out in an ad today that Republicans wanna defund the police, contrast that with all of their attacks last year.
Maybe even explain your position a little bit better so people truly understand it, but point out the fact that Republicans wanna burn down the top law enforcement agency in this country just to protect Donald Trump. And by the way, just in case you are wondering, this effort is being led in the House, of course, by Jim Jordan and in the Senate by Josh Hawley. They have been two of the most vocal Republicans calling for defunding the DOJ and the F B I, Marjorie Taylor Green. And of course, Matt Gates have also made similar comments, uh, very repetitively. So we do have multiple Republicans for y'all to choose from to put in your ads.
Hell, you could make a different ad featuring each one individually, but you gotta do it, and you gotta do it now, and you gotta run it all across the country. Do not wait to start running your attack ads until 2024. Put it in the public's heads right now that Republicans hate law enforcement because they're the ones who are now realizing that Uhoh, we apparently have a party of criminals here, whether it's Donald Trump or you know, possibly Ken Paxton, who's been impeached over in Texas. He's also been under indictment for over seven years. Now, whether it's George Santos, I mean, do you want me to continue? Because I think we got a pretty significant list of Republicans who are currently under indictment.
