Donald Trump is still threatening to sit out the first Republican debate coming up in August, and he's claiming that the "unfair" treatment that he's received from Fox News is to blame. Trump falsely claimed this week that Fox isn't covering his campaign events, even though they have already aired several of them live on their network. But the excuse isn't important, because it has changed so frequently, as Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins explains.

This week, Donald Trump came up with an even newer excuse as to why he does not want to participate in the first Republican primary debate that is being hosted by Fox News. According to Donald Trump this week, the reason again, this week he doesn't wanna participate in the debate is because Fox News did not run his speech from this past weekend at the Faith and Freedom Convention. Whatever thing Trump said, sorry, Fox News Life doesn't work that way. He's like, why would I give you ratings when you won't even give me ratings by covering my speeches? Now, Fox News has in fact covered plenty of Donald Trump's speeches and rallies and all those kinds of things, but they're not fawning over it and cutting away from their regularly scheduled programs to do it like they had in the past. They didn't even do it as much in 2020 as they did in 2016, and they're doing it even less now because people just aren't that interested in it.

Fox News is never gonna do anything to not get ratings. So if they thought running your speeches and your rallies uninterrupted would get them more viewers, they would do it. Donald, they're not making this choice because they hate you. They might hate you, but they're making this choice because that's not where the ratings are. They already took one massive hit in the ratings this year. They're not willing to sacrifice another one. So again, this is now Trump's new reasoning. Fox News is mean to me. They're not doing everything I want, so I'm not gonna go show up on their debate stage and give them ratings. Now, here's the thing. Jack Smith, the special prosecutor, has requested that the trial be moved from August to December. Judge Cannon has not, as of me speaking right now, given us a decision on that. So if Judge Cannon says, Nope, we're firmly going in August, then none of this excuses, uh, these excuses from Donald Trump matter because he won't be able to go to the debate anyway, because he'll be on trial for 37 criminal counts in the state of Florida.

So your, your excuses mean nothing. Not to mention the fact that you've changed excuses multiple times, which of course is why I kept referring to it as his excuse this week. Originally, Trump said he doesn't need to debate because he is already so far ahead of everybody that it's a foregone conclusion, but now it's because Fox News is mean to me. In fact, on Wednesday morning, Donald Trump woke up and started ranting and raving at Fox News because he says they always use unflattering pictures of me, buddy, I got news for you, man. Every picture of you is an unflattering picture of you. Take it from somebody who cannot take a flattering picture. They're all bad. Like, that's just how you look. It's a realization I've had to come to. It's a realization you need to come to. It's not that the photos are bad,

You just look that way. But either way, Trump's gonna continue this because he doesn't want to be on the debate stage because he's afraid. He is terrified. He doesn't wanna have to face, you know, Chris Christie, he doesn't wanna have to face anybody else up there, but he could easily dispatch DeSantis. He could dispatch Pence. But Chris Christie poses a real threat to him. Nikki Haley might even pose a threat to him, and Trump doesn't wanna risk anything.
